wow!

What do you think HP is now with ECU tune, exhaust, etc..? I know my bud is looking at a used one at a dealer in Appleton (5500 miles stock for $25,200).

You obvoiusly have put a lot of money into the car though... very well worth it in my opinion.

I will show him this thread and see if he wants to contact you about it.

later. Seth
WIth all the mods, it should be right around 300-310whp and 300+WTQ. I do not kid when I say this thing scares passengers thurougly....

I have had many people in the passenger seat scream as a matter of fact.

It is truly an amazing car... during an open hot lapping at road america, it easily passed almost every car there on the straights, and I needed to slow my pace in the turns for every car save a 993 Turbo that I played "tag along" with.

It did about 146 on the mid Straight under the sargento bridge, and slowed to speed for the hairpin with more confidence than I have ever felt from a car.

I just worry about the difficulty and expense of install and upkeep of it.

Im not too worried about the install.... hell, I come from working on a Z32, so ANY engine in the S13 will be easier... I just worry about how much of a wiring mess it would be as well as being able to get internal parts quickly and cheaply.

No it aint. You can get parts from your friendly local nissan dealer as long as you have parts numbers. R32 RB20DET Its by far the best bang for the buck out of our many choices of engines. It all comes down to preference I think. Wanna SR20 because its a SR20, well get a freakin SR20 dangit. If you want a KA24 well... You get the picture Dont sleep on the RB20 its really a beast waiting to be stroked and massaged and squeezes perfectly (with minor adjustments) into the S chasis without adding too much weight. (like the RB25 does)

I am not going to try to convince you to go RB20... But just to counter the theory that it's impossible to get parts... It's harder than getting SR20 parts, but not that hard.

For example... I needed a new engine temp sensor. That part is one of the few that doesn't match up with a US Nissan part. So, I cruised Ebay for guys from Japan selling Nissan parts. I emailed a few of them. One guy responded the next day and said he would visit a junkyard for me. He found a perfectly working sensor and shipped it to me for $20 (including shipping).

As for specialized upgraded internals... i don't know... I would think you would have a hard time finding SR20 stuff as well.

Don't forget the RB20 was also sold in Aus and NZ, so there are a lot of english speaking people on forums that have a lot of technical expertise.

I love my RB20.

About your car.. my buddy said that he is leaning toward a used WRX that he found. He thinks he can get 300hp out of that, and it will cost less. I still think your car is the way to go though. Sorry. I tried.

Oh yeah just go to the parts department with your RB part number...make sure you bring a credit card with a high limit and some lubricant.

No offense, but he wont be able to get the power or abilities of a modified EVO in a WRX unless he buys an STI and sinks about $4k into it.

no offense taken. I agree with you completely! He won't admit it to me, but I think his wife pretty much set a $$$ limit for him at $15K. He is hoping to get as much car as he can for that (used WRX), and then spend some cash now and then when he can sneak it by her to modify it.

Like I said.. I think your EVO is awesome.. and I totally pushed him toward it, but I just can't pull trump on his checkbook and his wife.

Sorry man, like I said.. I tried. Beleive me, I totally want John to get an EVO.. that would rock!

Just a quick and slight jaunt off-topic. Sorry to hear about your father. You are doing the right thing in trying to finish your schooling. I am on my last semester of Engineering school. It is a long and harsh curriculum. I have not had a SINGLE class in about 6 semesters that was not math and science.

I would recommend what I am currently doing. Put off a big car project until you are done with school, or if you can handle it get a part-time job to support it. My last semester I took 18credit hours, which was a nightmare (I do not recommend this!!!!). My reward this semester is a 9credit hour semester. Once I get a part time job, I may think of doing some work on my car. First order of business is of course to fix everything wrong with the car. Then I am thinking of finding a KA/CA/SR/RB engine and tearing it apart and rebuilding it (all while driving on the current 170k mile KA) like nothing else. Well, that's my big hope

Good luck on all this, school and everything, you will need it.

If I had to choose between those, I would do the KA-T.

dont like lancers, dont like imprezas4 door, tall height, giant wings, big bodied, with weird looking hood/bumper doesnt suit my style. besides the price doesnt justify to me rather spent pick up a blown 240 and spent the extra what 25k into it instead of picking up a stocker lancer/impreza. with 25k itll be all crazy with all the scary jdm stuff takata/bride, built sr, lsd, crazy high end coilovers, a nice stiff chassis, and full suspension tuning, turbo tuning, cooling and not including all the cool exterior stuff you can get too.

not interested in a built ka24det, this is my opinion though 2.4 litres... big heavy, its basically the same as building and turboing a camry or some sort... and its not jdm =/

Whatever you say buddy.

If you think the Evo has anything in common with a Lancer mechanically, you are an idiot.

the price is justified when you can have a car that does a low 4 second 0-60, 12sec 1/4 and still is able to take the dog to the grocery store on a saturday afternoon. With about $2k in mods.
