My mountain bike is my daily driver but I always come home at the end of the day and take a joyride in the 240. There is just something great about that car, love driving it. The SR swap made it a guilty pleasure I don't know what I did without. What also helps with that perception is the mile long list of other refinements. Bring on the flames for the next statement because I’m sticking to it: I’ve sat in several Lamborghini’s, Ferrari’s, and the Porsche Carrera GT, and driven a Ferrari 360 spider and Corvette C6 Zo6, all I have to say is they are just names. From my experience there is no difference (if you did it right, and I mean right) between the driving experience of a high end name brand sports car like those and what I have. I mean sure it doesn’t have Italian leather or carbon fiber all over the place or some V8/10/12 screaming under the hood; but the power, stiffness of the chassis, breaks, creature comforts, and just overall quality of the ride are comparable (to me).
I’ve put 12k miles on my S14 SR powered 1989 S13 in the past year, and I’ve loved every minute of it. As far as reliability its been amazing; I’ve overboosted it, ran it too lean, tried different oils, raced the junk out of it till the turbo turned bright orange, over revved it by miss shifting, had coolant leaks (all my fault), had boost leaks (again my fault), and a myriad of other miscalculations that other motors would have just folded up on. But not this one, it just keeps on going with perfect compression (just checked it yesterday), and now that I’ve learned from these mistakes I am going to give it the best chance for a much longer life by continuing to dial in the perfect setup… its almost there.
