After a visit to the doctors office with my fiancee I went home and worked on the VH. The news that we are having twin girls just lit a fire under my *** and I need to get this swap done before January. Twin girls? Haha, I always envisioned my first to be a single boy but for some reason I always knew I would have a girl. Never expected 2 though. Damn I'm excited!

Anyways I pounded for a few hours yesterday and today and got the long block built. I really enjoyed putting this thing together. Makes a SBC look and feel like a nice turd. I don't care if you can get 1000 hp out of american iron, I love this engine. The sound, the performance and especially the price.

Q45-456.00 300zx-1025gaskets-175pistons, rings, bearings-479machine work-279nico ecu-250

That puts me around 2650. The machine work was more than expected but they had to make a jig for the block and put it through a CNC. The guy gave me a killer break because I was quoted less so he "polished my crank" for free. haha It looks like new. I will end up needing an adapter and odds and ends. I planned on 3K but will end up going over a bit. Oh well. Show me a 3k dollar car with the brutality of a Z45...

Fo camz yo. Port matched intake, exhaust manifolds and heads, .040 over

A view of what's in store. Nothing but black, red and maybe a bit of silver or gold.

Anybody have a couple baby seats for sale?

Thanks fellaz! I'm going to be outnumbered 3 to 1 so I gotta get my projects done before they get here and take over. haha

I was going to put this in my truck but came across a 90 300zx in decent shape that needs an engine. There is nothing wrong with the truck engine besides being underpowered and I decided to put the VH in the Z. I have to pull the VG30 if I wanted to rebuild it so I'll just put the VH in the Z and build the VG up something wicked and put it into the truck.

I'm thinking that the VH will throw down somewhere around 330 crank hp with the ecu, head work and 94's in it. Any guesses on this are welcomed!

Then after I'm done I'll keep the VG around and work on it from time to time. I was thinking of swapping the old Q pistons into it and my infamous self-porting job, maybe some cams, ecu, etc. Nothing major and like the VH build, keep it simple and cheap. Hence reusing the Q pistons with new rings.

I would excpect with the nico ecu a good set of headers and exhaust 350 crank hp would be attainable.

I don't have the time or resources right now to work on headers so I'm gonna roll with the manifolds. They are tube style and I cleaned up the globs of weld on the inside. I hear that they also did a shoddy job where the tubes are welded to the log, the holes cut in the log are a bit small. So if anything I will cut an access to get into the log, clean everything up and weld it back closed. Another "free" mod that may help add a few hp.

What part of "expecting twin girls" didn't you hear? :P Daddy broke.

Nice. I am still far away from where you are. How'd you get the ECU? You mentioned nico-ECU. I also need one please. Where to I get.

I bought new pistons from motor parts warehouse in phoenix. They have Q engine kits from stock bore up to .040 over. It was 490 for pistons, hastings rings and full bearings. They are mfg by Safety auto parts and the quality is equal to OEM. Very good parts for the money. I actually think they supply Nissan with OEM engine parts.

As for the ECU you can get one from Elwesso. zerothread/270798

Yeah they look identical to the factory ones. MPW sells just the pistons for 330 and I was quoted 300 from another dist. so I'm sure you can get them even cheaper than that.

I'm digging that flat engine paint... always done "cast blast", or "aluminum finish", never seen anything like that and it looks freakin awesome!

Yeah until now I was thinking I'd paint my block black... but now I might go for a satin or flat grey.

I was wondering who would notice that. I couldn't adapt any puller I had to the damn pulley so I used a jaw puller. I only took a couple little chunks out and they really won't affect anything.

You should see my valve spring compressor! haha I didn't want to spend the 100+ bucks for one so I looked a few up and came up with this. It's just some angle, a small c-clamp that I cut and then welded a 7/8 deep well to the end of it. I cut access panels in it with a cut-off wheel and then welded a smaller socket to the bottom to rest on the valve. It worked friggin beautifully!!! I think it worked better than if I bought a professional one.

Here's a teaser. More to come after I get the throttle body finished and get my camera back. These phone pics suck. It's looking sick though.

That is looking sweet!!! Thanks for the ideas.

Is all of the paint you're using high-temp engine paint? I need to pick some up.

The flat black is, but the red is not. I guess we'll see how well it holds up to a little heat. It should be fine since the valve covers and intake only get around 180-210.

I cut my factory manifolds up to see if it was worth modifying them and internally they really suck. If you are going to use them I'd be tempted to just use first section of the manifold. ie make you own log section. That way you get rid of the other problem where the gas is directed back into the rear cyclinder.

That would be my only option as I don't have a tubing bender and would have to use a header kit.

Anyone know if a Z32 swap needs to have the exhaust modified?

I wish motor motor looked that good!!!!!!!!!! But as mine will spend most of it's time covered in mud it wasn't really a worthwhile job.
