Well, my dad is looking for a new car, not brand new, but a car to buy for under 4k. The first thing that came out of my mouth was the get a 240sx. Nice looks, good gas mileage and what not. Well, hes giving me the look of, no, I dont think so, because he knows i want one of my own, since i just drive my uncles 240 for now.

Anyways, the price cap is 4k, this is going to be the work car/grocery getter. Actually, just had a conversation w/ my dad and got him finally to consider the 240sx. But, other we have been looking at, w/low miles, are a 2001 kia rio:( , some sort of honda w/ the D series in it. Toyota corolla, and thats all I could think about. Hopefully, if all goes well, there will be about 4 240sx's in the family:D , also told him to consider the sentra, maybe an older maxima. But, he likes the fact that the 240 is RWD. So please, just alittle input from you all. Remember, he is not looking to tune it, just to drive it. Doesnt meanI wont:icesangel Thanks in advance.

Sentra, Altima, older Stanza (some luxury one hidden out there).

Does he need 2 or 4 doors?Does he plan on dropping no more than 4k and then just driving the heck out of it?Or does he plan on having to do some work?

Ok, forgot to mention that, he does not want to do any work to it at all, or minimal work. Haha, this is not a project car, also, doesnt matter if its 2 or 4 door. Also want it manual. Hes a 52 yr. old man that is into domestics but has always liked imports and such, because of me and my bro, he loves the 350z.

Right now he has a 95 Cadillac STS in excellent conditon w/nice paint and everything, I like it, but as, I forgot who else on these boards have one, it guzzles allot of gas. Also have a GMC Safari as the work van, 215k miles, but can feel the coming of a blown engine or something major. So, he cant afford being w/o that work van so he needs somethin else.

95 would stbe the oldest that might touch a $4K price.

Even in todays low prices for used cars ( just saw some amazing stuff a 2000 Max for 7k!) I think you are more looking at a 93/94 in decent shape in that price range.

If you can find a 95 it would be higher miles.

Dont forget we have picked up some sponsors in the last few months that have huge inventories of used cars, might wanna check 'em too.

I dont know that much about Maximas, but what kind of gas mileage can he look to get, its mostly going to be on the highway too. Also, we found a 2001 sentra GXE, for 6900, looked up at kbb saying it should go for 10k, that sentra has 30k miles on it.

Well. having a family of 2 door sporty coupes may sound cool to a kid but it's not particulary practical to a dad. I suggest getting a different type of vehicle so your family can have some versatility. Perhaps an extended cab pickup or SUV, or wagon maybe? How about an old Pathfinder or 4 Runner? Ideal grocery getters because you can fit a lot in them and still get decent gas mileage.Just a thought

I30s are same as maximas, but they are cheaper sometimes thanks to Infiniti's patented asstastic ability to lose its value during the 90s. You can probably luck out and find an I30 or a G20 from the early 90s for that cheap. I30s and maximas are really reliable. Indestructible, some might say.

No, I asked him about getting a truck, he likes the idea of a 240sx for he hasnt had anything sporty in awhile, wants something to tool around in. I would like a truck too for some odd reason. Found some Maximas the other night for a decent price too.

Cant wait to see him on the board. What kind of Infiniti's is he looking for?

When it comes to Q45 3/4 of all Q's on the used car markey have been undermaintained to the tune of 4-7 grand of deferred maintenance.

If eh is conseidering Q check our for BST which has 2 for real cheap FS, they both need a guides but ar at least member cars.

Also there were some nice I30's FS here but they are many pages back in BST.

I30 prices are consistently good and you can buy good ones for decent price many places.

He could pick up Jesda's Q for less than that.

Put a set of chain guides in it and it's a solid car for the $$$.

Thing is, money is not in hand right now. Im just gathering facts and such. I mean, hes looking at reliable cars for around thr 4k mark, why not get a good car while hes at it. There are some really good deals on autotrader. Im already excited about a different car, it will be about a month or so, (bills) then he will get really serious.

J30's are <not > the equivalent to an Alitma they are a step above I30 in automotive class.

RWD, V6 210hp unusually nice interior.

I gotta jump in real quick... My car was $9600, but it could have been cheaper (like $9000) if my dad had felt like haggling with the credit union... Anyway, a B13 or B14 Sentra would fit the bill perfectly. If he really wants a slightly sportier car, find a Sentra SE-R or 200SX SE-R, and an SR20DE would make the perfect motor IMO. It'll take a good beating and still deliver some power, plenty for a grocery getter. 5spd Sentras/200SXs (even SE-Rs) are pretty common. One example- http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp....t=725 here's the whole search (nationwide)- http://autotrader.com/findacar...&y=17

^ that's just for 200SXs too! Here's a Sentra search, same parameters- http://autotrader.com/findacar...&y=13 the area code is mine (south of Atlanta), so the distance is going to be off, but I'm sure you can run a search from yours and do the distance stuff. Anyway, find an SE-R or even an SE and it should be a lot of fun as a daily beater!

edit: Oh, I guess you noticed how small Sentras/200SXs are, in case your dad is big, I can note that I'm 6'3, 165 and I fit quite comfortably in my car (seat is down and all the way back, but I could move it forward a notch and be alright). Good luck!

Yeah, I drove my friends Sentra (GA16) not to bad, especially for my dads purposes. I hate Saturns with a passion, drove one, hate it.

Im thinking an old codger like my dad would do better in an Infiniti. But, we'll see when we get out there and start the test driving.

Think of a J30 as a 7/8th Q 45 with half much less maintanance costs.

Chassis is a beefed up version of 300 ZX chassis very modern and pelasant interior.

Q's are GREAT, but they live on a very pertoleum heavy diet - tires, gas, etc :D. Not for the budget minded.

I'm feeling the G in the Infiniti side. A G20 is small and quick, but has plenty of room for daily crap, and it's an SR20DE :). (Am I biased? Maybe a little... but I am serious)
