Hello All,

New to posting at the forum but have been looking around quite a bit.

Note: talking about an S13

I was wondering if any of you have seen a custom rear bumper or valence that takes the "bumper" out of the bumper. I guess what I mean is, making the rear look more like a new corvette rear end. The lights would be the farthest part back on the car, with a slow curve underneath the car.

I know you need the bumper and foam inside for rear ending crash, but at this point I wouldn't really be concerned with it, just looking.

I think it would look great, make the car look more like a sports car.

dont really think that the looks of the 240sx could benefit from such a conversion, but then again im the one who wants '80s style fender flares on my car.

there may be some kits that move to achieve what you speak of, but they are certainly going to be more than just a rear bumper. check jacquemond (sp)

I'd say go for it man, you're gonna have to cut the 5mph bumper off at least... which maybe you'd need a plasma torch? I guess a dremel would suffice. Anyway, I like it, and corvettes are my dream car, so melt em together for one kick@$$ package!

ok, why didn't it bleep out kickass... anyway, umm can i turn OFF the profanity filter?

It looks very corvette'ish, problem is where will your bumper support go? Don't expect to have much of a car left if you ever get rear ended...

I've always wanted to do a little corvette style rear valence and kouki style tails. Thought it would look ballz, maybe grandsport style with the two lines on the driverside front fender like the one car that used to be owned by one guy on here and now he has that motorcycle and stuff.... I talk out my *** it's fun but the first part of this post had some substance..

Ya, it is definetly just an idea right now, although I do suspect that if I got rear ended, the car would be screwed anyways. The bumper, as with all cars is really just for low speed impacts, after that they will just crush, letting the frame take over the crumple protection.

To the best of my knowledge at least

Yeah, I'm liking that.

At least you could go for a lower profile rear bumper.

don't be foolish my friend, the bumper cover is for low speed impacts, the bumper is inside the cover and not visible from outside of the car- that is what I'm talking about protecting your car from anything betwen 5 and 25mph, above that you are right, you're done.. But since when has someone hit anybody over 25mph and not totalled a car.

Write up coming just as soon as i finish the hood vent I am not going to do the corvette look(althuogh the thought had crossed my mind) because of safety reasons. (anybody remember what happens when a pinto gets rear ended?) Instead i plan on loosing a few inches, just shorten it up a bit. Should look pretty tight. A rough guess is that i should have it done by 3rd week of March.I will title the write up "custom rear 240 bumper" look out

Bump cos I'm in the market for a rear bumper (coupe though). I definitely want to shorten it up and get rid of coupe ghetto booty/fat lip.

If anyone knows of a shorter rear bumper, post it up. I don't neccessarily need to completely cut it out and go for a corvette look.

I know that the JDM coupe valance gives a more aggressive, yet sleek slope to their bumpers. Does anyone know if the coupe valance fits onto a hatch?

coupes are more square where as hatches have a more curvy shape in the bumper. so no they dont fit

How about a custom bumper and an LS series swap. That would be cool.

blaaahhh I'm soooo sick of hearing that crap. Do you put japanese Nissan gas in your tank? Or japanese nissan brake pads?

Who the hellllllll cares! Keep your "oh just go buy a corvette" comments to yourself. This thread isn't totally about swapping a corvette rear end on your car, its sucking in the god awful huge rear bumper on a 240.

Thanks! I had been thinking of trying this. You savd me some heartache!

But on the other hand, Bomex makes a replica of the coupe valance and something similar for the hatch. Not exactly what the OP is asking for, but here's pics of Bomex's offerings in case anyone is interested.

Can anybody comment on Bomex's fitment quality?

i forgot to comment on the bumper. it doesnt look too bad personally. i was talking about the bumper and ls motor swap combination. i also didnt say anything about swapping jdm gas or anything like that i was strictly saying about motor conversoins. i personally dont like them. just my .02

Im sick of kids ruining perfectly good stock cars trying to make them something they can never be.

As for the S13 bumper being too large, I think its part of its late 80s appeal. I hate the soft non distinct bumpers on cars today. I think without it the car has no definition.

it wouldn't look too bad IMO, I'd say the best way to go with that route is a custom fiberglass rear bumper.
