If you remove the non monitored secondary cats the pipe is 2.5" at their inlets.
For the V8 you're right. V6 doesn't have non monitored cats. Stock pipes are 2".

On my 2011 M56S the pipes that exit the stock secondary cat were 1 7/8" and ran together into a 2.5" Y. The exit at the manifold cat going into the secondary cat is 2.5". I went dual 2.5" from the manifold flange to the back of the car. Woke my car up tremendously.

I could not even begin to tell you what the V6 runs because I have never paid attention to one.

No I have not. The part schematics sometimes are not accurate, but it is a fuel tank protector. The part number might be stamped on the inside if you take it off.

Mine is the same except where it bolts on to the sport mufflers. Since the sport mufflers were made as a bolt on factory replacement, my exhaust tapers to 2" flanges at that point...thinking about modifying the sport mufflers to 2-1/2". It would be a lot of work though, plus I'm not sure it would get me any more performance.
