Finally got custom exhaust done. Had Mad Hatters over in Tampa install the Racing Line y-pipe and make the custom cat back. Setup is completely different from whats out there. After the y-pipe is a flowmaster Hushpower HP-2 going to resonators on both sides. Flowmaster really gives a nice deep tone. Drone was killer without the resonators though. Happy with the results. Here are the pics. Site finally took the sound clip.

Finally got the site to take the sound clip. Not sure what size the hushpower is.

Drone is not terrible, depending on the rpm... 1800-2200 rpm can be bad depending how you drive. We are working on another revision to reduce it. Tried adding a high flow cat to see if that would help any which it didn't so will have them remove it next week. Going to replace the Hushpower for a different type. Hopefully its the mid muffler causing the drone. If that doesn't work, going to replace the resonators with something else. Have already sound deadened the trunk and used egg crates to fill in the gaps in the empty sides of the trunk. Btw, filling the sides of trunk with egg crates help the vibrations and help produce a more solid tone in the car and its cheap to do.

Ah. i went through the whole exhaust experimenting. Went from a small cherry bomb to a big magnaflow to a huge glass pack. All unsuccessful of curing the horrid drone. Massive mufflers helped a little but i ended up being tired of the tone so im searching for a new set up. I sound deadened most of the trunk as well and under the cabin but haven't heard of using egg crates. Do you have any pics of how yours is done im interested in trying it out.

I didn't take pics of it. Bought a twin sized egg crate and cut it in half, then cut it in half again. Rolled it as compressed as possible and stuffed it in the sides. Reason for doing this is that it is very hard to sound deaden the pockets with anything else. Since the carpet covers it up it didn't matter if it stuck out some. Egg crate was like 12 bucks at Walmart and took about about 10min to do. Longest part was taking the clips out.

You would think if it is fairly easy to keep sound inside a car it would be easy to do the reverse. Who ever thought it would be this difficult to kill drone in a car.

I haven't gotten around to sound deaden under the cabin but if it doesn't make a lot of difference then maybe I'll hold that off for now.

I'm going to try to copy the nismo setup next I think. Largest and longest resonator for the middle and then to 2 large mufflers unless someone has tried that with no luck...

okay i'll look into that.My trunk is all matted down with sound deadening and the under cabin really did nothing tbh. (for drone atleast)
my-little-coupe-build-long-post-w-pics-t548140.html
Checkout my link and scroll down to when i show my exhaust. i tried the big resonator big muffler combo.
I have a Big resonator and 2 Big mufflers with not much luck.
So many different setups with minimal drone reduction. The bigger resonator and mufflers muted the tone outside by alot but incabing was just as bad.
Read somewhere that decreasing the size of the piping halfway down is supposed to eliminate drone. But not sure i can credit that post. I was going to use the same set up you have but since it didnt do much for you im going back to the drawing board.
You got the 3.5 and mines a 2.5 so it might have different outcomes.

Had the shop install a 24in oval muffler. Seems it is pretty quiet now as the week has gone by. Was going to go back to the stock muffler but I think I'm going to keep the setup now. The only thing is is its pretty quiet outside the car as well...

So you're running the newly installed muffler and the dual resonators?
I've been thinking up exhaust ideas and im thinking about just having an axleback done, and keeping the stock resonator and piping. 2 new mufflers and piping.

Yep, running the muffler with the 2 resonators. Very minimal drone now at any speeds unless accelerating between 55 and 65mph but even then its not bad at all.
