Ummm...how about your left or right hand, when not driving.

There's a reason there are none.

Run a search and you will find this has been discussed extensively with the end answer being you have two options:

Hold the cup in your hand, lap, console and maybe spillORdon't drink anything while you drive.

Sorry bud.

Ditto what Brian said.

Just don't put one near the console - Lots of pricey electronic bits in there (that DON'T like Starbucks).

If you MUST, get a $ .99 one at Wal-Mart that hangs on your door panel - Clips into the window channel.

To hell with the electronics, I'm more likely to spill it by myself than the using the cupholder. Besides, where are you going to put your adult beverage while driving ;)

With all seriousness, I added one next to the changer controls under the armrest. It's something I picked up at Wal Mart after scouring the globe for a cupholder. Called a "Spill Master" it can be screwed (I used a bolt for mine) down into the console and sealed to keep spills from leaking into the pricey stuff below.

I tried just screwing it in the lower console, but I wasnt' happy with the fit so I re engineered it with bolts and a bracket.

The only downside it that I have to flip the armrest up to carry a large drink, but it's sooooo helpful it's worth it.

Dennis has a nice wooden cupholder in his car, but they are very hard to find and usually sell for $50 + on ebay.

"screwed into the console"?

AAUUUGHHH!!! sacrilege!

(j/k). If I have a beverage in my car I just set it between my legs... But it's a rare occasion as I HATE driving distractions.

Argh. Darn shame especially on long trips where it'd be nice to have a big drive-thru cup to sip on for 200 miles.

My '94 has them, but you have to flip the console open, to use, and you can not close it on anything bigger than a 12 oz can. I use a heavy glass, and it rests nicely on the wood, between the coin holder (heated seat control for you lucky owners), and the shift knob. I usually rest my arm on the top of the glass.

I have only had one spill, and that was early on, when I forgot it was not in the cup holder, on a sweeping left-hander. Good thing it was water. I soaked my passenger seat, and door panel.

When I am with my honey, she holds the glass for me.

Never Fear HitMan,

I'm talking under the armrest where the factor phone option USED to be. So it's not sticking out of the dash or anything.

BTW: Pro Fit makes a GREAT mount for cell phones in the Q. The bracket mounts to the bolts which hold the AC Display and fits under the cover panel. Looks great and is rock solid, in case anyone needs one.

Maybe I need to get a second car, since I'm sometimes the designated driver. Last time I took a girl home who drank too much, she puked all over the back seat of my Mazda 929 (how did she MISS the big bucket I gave her?). Fortunately, eBay had matching factory OEM seat covers for $50 shipped for the whole car, reupholstered all the seats within two weekends.

But imagine the effects of acidic puke on fine leather! Argh!

I can get a 16oz foam cup into my cupholder..... The thing doesnt close, but no biggie there........ Otherwise, it is near the gear shifter, holded by my right hand while my left takes the helm.........

I only have had one spill, and it was just a wee bit of coke, but the only place it DID spill was over the heated seats and TCS buttons!!!!!! I took the unit out and it was just a wee sticky, no harm done!!

Had that happen... pull ov...:jawdrop: He's a good buddy thought... luckily he had a lot of pasta, bread, etc. and mostly shots, so not much liquid... It was devine intervention that his apartment complex had a supersized 50cent vacuum cleaner on the curb right beside the parking place at his apartment. That and some paper towels and it became a non-issue.

Puke (or spill) in my Q and you're getting a right cross.

That goes for the kids too. Daddy loves his pristine 8 year old interior. :D

You're going to have to upgrade your friends if you don't keep the 929. Having the pukee pay for the detail job after they clean it usually cures them and qualifies them for additional saddle time.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t

I know what you mean... I had a friend that liked to try to hide trash and then see how long it took for me to find it (gum wrappers in the rear ash trays, etc). Between the ballpoint pen mark on the headliner and breaking the bottom screws off of the seat back on one trip, I about killed him... His entire family (from grandma and grandpa on up) drives Fords and nothing else - figures...

That's why you should drink the _pure_water_ only in your Q if you have to. Evian or Smart Water will work. And the good thing about clean bottled water has a cap, so you never spill it if you close it tight. It satisfies your thurst better than coke too :)

That's what I tell my wife. No cups or cans in the Q, or any of my cars.

If one is really interested in cupholder technology, it should be noted that the hot area of competition is in SUVs and minivans, with 17 being the current high count in a vehicle.

Now I've restablished what little board credibility I had before I shooted myself in the foot with the Miss Vermont link.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t
