The Connecticut delegation to the Republican National Convention was attacked today as they attempted to enter the Xcel Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The delegation - including official delegates, alternates, and guests - numbering approximately 120 people - got off the buses and began to walk through the security perimeter into the Convention Hall when they encountered a large group of RNC protesters who formed a human chain to block the delegation from continuing and shouting epithets at the Nutmeggers.

Police officers in riot gear quickly converged on the protestors as the delegation attempted to walk through the blockade. Delegates were shoved and spat upon by the protestors.

When Chairman Healy’s mother Lila was spat upon by a protester, former U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons stepped between the elder Healy and the crowd. He was doused with a liquid substance that was later determined to be a mix of clorox and water. At least 10 other delegates also were hit with liquid.

With police assistance, the delegation managed to break through the crowd and slip inside the security perimeter. The police quickly responded to the altercation and were able to prevent it from escalating further.

The St Paul police and the Secret Service are investigating how the protesters were able to get into the area unopposed.

What exactly are they protesting?

UGH.

They should round these people up and deport them.

Seriously, what do they intend to prove?

One thing the Dem's (and some Reps) have not learned to do is disagree without being disagreeable.

This is absolute bullchit. I hope they arrested all who were involved.

Again, no one's saying ths is the work of the DNC or even sanctioned by it.

BUT, it IS indicative of the level of class we're dealing with here... There's SOMETHING to be gleaned from the fact that this didn't happen during the DNC convention.

In fact, most of the GOP applauded BO's groundbreaking and historic speech.

Where is BO's "call for unity" now? Oh, that's right. He couldn't organize a Neighborhood Watch effectively... How's he going to get angry lefties to stop their domestic terrorism?

This is ALL a ploy to get the police to overreact. Someone gets shot, it's gonna be the "big bad gun-toting repressive Republicans" fault.

Pathetic.

Most of these guys/gals are anti war protestors. I figure with Lieberman supporting the war and giving a speech last night, the CT delegation was probably targeted for this very reason.

luckily, the media coverage seems to at least be showing images representing what is actually happening there (i have it muted for obvious reasons). you can see the douchebag segment of the protesters - notice i am not including everyone in this statement - damaging or destroying property and assaulting police and others BEFORE any act to restrain them is taken.

the bad news for Liberals is, even though this behavior is being committed by probably a relatively small faction likely not associated with the majority's opinion or method, its making them ALL look like pricks.

No, I think they're going to try and claim censorship, free speech infringement, and all that Bill of Rights crap. Not saying the Bill of Rights are crap, but what they'll claim is crap.

What is the purpose these people? To make them look like fools in front the nation, and probably across the world. What do they hope to gain from these kinds of things? Put your efforts into something meaningful and something that will actually have a good impact on your cause. And I bet some of them are asking, "Why'd we get arrested?" Please, have some class and respect (I seem to say that every now and then and it usually seems to be towards the left).

FIRST: Yes, I took some shxt out of the quote.

Anyway, in regards to what I DID quote, I agree with all of it. What's going on here is despicable.

As I've said already a couple times, certain factions on the left have a nasty dependence on protesting as a political tactic. It has been both a strength and a weakness in the past, but I am firmly of the belief that it will NEVER be a strength again.

You have 100% rightly identified a legitimate weakness in the party. All parties have their weaknesses, but this is undeniably one of "ours". No argument from me here.

It needs to go away. The faster it goes away, the better.

^ Thanks. With no original story linked, I didn't know what day it was from.

WTF is going on up there? This violence is dispicable!

But didn't the St.Paul PD plan out the authorized protest zones so as to protect the delgates?

The extremists tried to cross those barriers. And then whined when the Police told them to stop their actions.

So, both days, they physically attacked delegates enroute to the Convention. Real class.

To my knowledge, no Democrat (I don't mean here - I mean public leader) has yet stepped up and said that this was wrong!

And, I should iterate, before it gets misconstrued. I do mean "the extremists" above.

I certainly do not believe that the Democrat leadership endorses these things - but I would like them to publicly condemn the actions!

Here's what I'd love to see happen:

One of the old guys from CT with a CC permit put 2 rounds at close range through some jobless douche trying to toss bleach in his eyes.

SURPRISE!!!!!!!

Ummm ... I am not a Democrat, but I would really prefer that you not go this far.

Seriously, I simply don't believe that the party leadership endorses the actions of these extreme elements. However, I would like the DNC leadership to condemn these actions.

That would be censorship - this is a bit of a wooly forum. Where opinions can get strong and strongly stated.

We are not going to remove too harsh statements of what is out there in the Internet world. What we are going to try to control (not realistic to catch everything though - that needs full time Moderation) is personal attacks on members here.

I guess your definition of personal attacks is different than mine.

Edit: By that, I mean that "It's okay RN & Telco, you can take pleasure in this report." is a totally BS thing to say.

Wing pretty much proves that a Dem is a more advanced life form than a Rep. I don't pay much attention to what he posts and I'm sure telco gets a giggle too.
