it's a certain psychotic mental unbalance in these women that causes them to want to steal another woman's baby, but it goes into the downright f'n crazy when they would kill for it. Very sad, I feel terrible for the families of the victims

Good grief, when will the bad news stop and the good news begin? All you hear on TV, and read in the papers is someone dying, raped, or kidnapped. WTF gives people? Too much breeding, not enough proper parenting.

I don't want to derail the thread, KayVee, but you hit it spot-on.

The news exists to make money (except for public radio/PBS), which means they serve up whatever will sell money for their advertisers. I personally believe that we Americans have wallowed in our own pampered mediocrity and cultural stagnation for so long that we have had to resort to gloating over the misery of others in order to make ourselves feel better. Self-worth by degredation of others rather than by aspiration to higher standards, you see.

Talk shows, reality TV, and the news are all just manifestations of the same thing -- we are being told to consume, which makes us fat and lazy, and then given programming to watch that makes our fatness and laziness seem not so bad after all, which then lets us feel better about consuming even more. And so the cycle continues.
