I kind of makes me mad when people talk crap about cars they know nothing about.
1. crankwalk is overrated. Yes it happens to some but it does not happen to all. I actually believe that most of the people who say that they have crankwalked 500 engines (exaggeration) probably are mistaking other engine problems for it. I don't know about you but I see a lot of 2g eclipses and talons driving around bone stock and I am sure the girls and guys driving those cars have not dropped in a 6 bolt.
2. Yes the lifters tend to tick, but other than the annoyance there is no need to mess with them. They do sell updated lifter to stop it though.
3. I find the zipties poster funny coming from someone who drives a 240.
4. You won't blow a transmission unless you do not know how to drive an awd car, or if you are making lots of power and are on slicks like the car in that pic. (shepherd racing transmission ftw)
5. If you are supper paranoid about crankwalk, something that will help is to disable the sensor that makes you have to push the clutch in to start the car. (all you have to do is unplug it)
6. If you have the t28, keep it. You can make a lot of power with that engine and turbo combo. If you have the t25 don't raise the boost. It will not blow up, it will just not net you any significant performance.
7. Use only the ngk plugs that the owners manual indicate. It will run like junk on anything else and plus they are cheap.
8. Yes, DSM's do have their problems. If you got one that was well taken care of, then you should be ok. Most people who say they are junk and unreliable have never owned one and are just repeating what they have heard/read. I bet there are a ton of people who do not even understand what crankwalk is.
9. Now, that being said. DSM's are not as reliable as hondas, or even 240s. A lot of people back in the day, came from the honda world where you could do no maintenance, beat on the car all day, and it would still drive great. Then they bought a dsm tried to do the same and stuff started breaking. Then they got on message boards, and complained about how unreliable and crappy dsms are. Now everyone quotes it as law.
I do not mean to offend anyone. But like I said earlier, a lot of people will say that dsms are pieces of junk and they have no actual experience with those cars.
Just in case any of you guys want to know, I had a 95 Gst eclipse (hence the screen name) with a evo III 16g turbo, evo manifold, 3" downpipe and full exhaust, mbc, walbro fuel pump, etc... running 15lbs of boost so I have messed with these cars quite a bit.
PS - dsmtuners.com is amazing for dsm info. Go there and read. If you ever run into problems or have question about the new car don't be afraid to pm me.
PSS - Don't worry nico, I love my 240 too.
