Check out what I designed for my bf's bday...you all know he's a neon SRT-4 fanatic so I took some inspiration from the top gear table and instead of making an engine table with a glass top (I think I'll make a nissan engine table one day for myself actually), I made a crankshaft table. I designed it, then contracted an artist out of Richmond, VA to do it---he specializes in junkyard art, and right after he finished this piece he got sent to Paris to exhibit his art.

The crank is from a neon SRT-4 and has the paint is the original, rare 'stone white' that the SRT-4's come in...the top is carbon fiber and the symbol is painted in..."B3LIEVE" are his plates, and that was actually supposed to be etched in but there wasnt enough time so it was just printed...kind of gay. The bolts on the feet of the table, which you cant see, are like hot rod bolts or something, I can't remember excatly what they are called but they are chrome and shiny and HUGE and cool looking. and the top and bottom are in the dodge pentagon-ish shape.

this thing was SO HEAVY...i had him build it in 3 parts so I could take it apart to transport and carry it and put it back together...and each part was still ridiculously heavy lol....it's pretty much permanently made dents in the carpet in only a day haha.

lol i can sit and stand on that thing and it wont budge.

my only concern was that he would harvest the table for parts! (the car has been down with motor issues for over a year now) but I had the guy weld the crankshaft in instead of screws or something so I wouldnt come home one day and the crank would be in his car instead of our living room. lol.

that's excatly my next task....i want to 1) replace our stupid ikea coffee table with a nissan engine table that looks like the top gear (US) one....
and 2) make a loveseat out of the seats from the back of his SRT, which he removed to make it lighter lol. (the back is pretty much gutted). the artist is gone in Paris though, might be something I have to do myself. will do some research and try it. i feel like thats pretty hard with no welding materials or exp.

... annnnnd, that's what she ..... nevermind.

Love the idea about the rear seat ... you should do it yourself; it would add even a more personal touch to it! I'm going to take my old Kirky race seat and make an office chair out of it, or maybe a gaming chair for my son.

Nah, was thinking more like this ... just cheaper because I can pretty much fabricate it with existing parts. :dblthumb:

That table doesn't need legs. A neon crank can walk all by itself.

Seriously, though, that's awesome Stacey. He better appreciate you!

You coulda used a flywheel as the base!

But jamming your toe on a flywheel will be very very unpleasant.

Looks cool!

I did once :frown: now its safely in a corner of our living room where we can stare at it, rather than walk by it and stub our toes on. lol.

yeah shipping would kill. i cant even estimate how much this thing weighs. I swear it weighs as much as me. but maybe not. I'm 110.
that and it would tear through any packaging its put it because of its odd shape and heavy weight. I had to drive 5 effing hours to richmond (ONE WAY) to get it. woke up at 5am to leave didnt get home till 5 that afternoon.
