Chris Cagle (Z4 and 7-series designer) is a god damn crackhead. He needs to lay off the drugs and put the pencil down.
In terms of design, automobiles often look best when they mimic the desirable features of women's faces and bodies. A curvaceous Stingray out-shows an 84 Vette any day, and for good reason. The 80s Corvette lacked any lumps, humps, symmetry, and curves that made the Stingray almost look... should I say... doable?
Another thing... symmetry. Symmetry and evenness is one thing a lot of psychologists and human biologists believe makes someone of the opposite sex more attractive. The Z4 has that awkward dipped crease in the side that does not correspond to the top of the door, making it appear out of place and inconsistent with the thematic layout of the rest of the body. The rear is tolerable, but the front has an exaggerated oversized nose. The nose assists in making the Z4 appear somewhat aggressive, but fails miserably in execution, making it look like an out of place front end tacked on by some kid who rummaged through a junkyard. It has absolutely no match with the rear. I mean, would you go for a woman whose eyes were bigger than her butt?
And the 7 series? The trunk lid looks cartoon-like, distracting an onlooker from an otherwise clean-looking car. The front end has awkwardly curved lenses with no clear intent or meaning behind them. Its as if Cagle said "Hey! Lets make that **** curvy cuz Im a crazy mofo and they pay me the big bucks!" and went to town on it. The whole car looks as if it was three different cars slammed and welded together: front, middle, and rear...
I like the Maserati Spyder and any Aston Martin. Those cars are the mechanized and motorized artistic depictions of sex.
