Hey Guys,

I started smelling coolant in my car a few days ago, but didn't make a big deal of it because the level wasnt dropping and the gauges were all in check. Yesterday my gf noticed that there is coolant on my floormat, so i came to the conclusion that my heatercore is probably going. I went to home depot and got some 3/4" pipe pieces to loop the heatercore hose for now.

Now, before i get a new heatercore, i understand that the elbows from the heatercore to the engine bay are plastic. What are the chances that the heatercore is fine and just these plastic elbows broke? has anyone had just that happen, or is it usually the core?

cheers for any input,Marko

that just happen to me too.i have to take the whole dash out and check it.pain in the ***.doesn't look like it was broken, just the hose leaking through the hoe into the car passenger floor.and now my a/c is not working.but i don't really need a/c..i drive my car without a/c all summer since 2005..hahah...try replacing the hose and see what happen/if it is still leaking then you have to remove to dash and check it.good luck

I would seriously doubt it's the plastic pieces, most likely your heater core.

Its a problem with metal fatigue. Happens on pretty much all cars if they manage to last long enough.

Happened on my old '94 Camaro. PITA to change.

Some cars are more prone than others to it than others. Taking good care of your cooling system will extend the life of both the heater core and the radiator.
