I had a smaller set. I could hardly keep a car on the track as they would fly off each curve. THEN I got the TCR:

Total Control Racing...no slots and you could kinda change lanes.

True dat.

My favorite toy growing up was my BMX bike (it had blue tires!) and the ramp I built out of plywood and 2x4's I found in my old man's scrap pile. Old Blue and I competed against other lightcycles, went on Delta Force missions, thrilled millions with our death-defying stunts, and outran tornadoes.

God DAMN I miss being a kid.

Kids these days don't understand. Too pussified and "protected". Miracle they can wipe their own noses....without using hand sanitizer before and after.

My nephew (now 5) still asks for someone to wipe his arse, but fails to wash his hands or flush the toilet.
My knees were always scuffed, scabbed or bleeding growing up. Didn't care, I'd ride my frankenstiened BMX without shoes on metal pedals with no safety gear but the foam padding on the handlebars and mainframe.

I completely forgot about that thing. I wonder if my parents still have it sitting around somewhere. I will be searching for it next time I visit them...

Massive and intricate hotwheels ramp courses, legos, k'nex, and military Micromachines were the bulk of my toy time.

For those "not in the know" this is the 1975 Huffy Thunder Road:

Image

Mine was an original black #4. It replaced my Schwinn with the banana seat...well. kinda. The schwinn was painted purple and gold and I put a 4' sissy bar on it at the time. Anyway, at the time kids were putting on those ROAR POWER's! You know, battery operated attachments to the handle bar that made a motorcycle sound. Still, I wanted me an Orange Crate but I never got one :(

Image

Now, a buddy of mine had one of the Yamaha bikes with real rear springs and sprung front forks like this:

Image

Was pretty cool!

The vid above shows it on a shallow hill. We would find the steepest hills we could find and go down them either laying on it like they are or we would sit on it and steer with our feet. Stopping was a joke so you hoped a car was not coming across the intersections because if you were laying down they surely would not see you. Man, FUN TIMES

Ah,the orange crate stingray. That brought back some memories. I had a single speed schwinn stingray with a banana seat with a standard sissy bar, that my dad won in an Esso gas station contest back when I was maybe 9. But I had a neighborhood friend whose parents sprung for the orange crate with an extended sissy bar.(snazzy, pricey bike in its day). Very easy to get the front wheel off the ground as it was small/light, but you had to use the gears instead of standing up to accelerate as that gear shift was not in a good location for boys standing up. ;)

Orange crate was 86.95 back then. My first bike was a '69 Stingray Deluxe in gold. I upgraded to one of the drag slick tires at some point.

I got the slick rear tire the old fashioned way, I skidded it flat.

yaaaaa, i rarely got toys as a kid. didn't really care for them though. most of my playtime was spent outside playing soccer, mock karate, cricket, flying kites, riding bikes, street hockey, or foot racing. oh and tons and tons of hide and go seek. my friends eventually got consoles, but we all still played outside just as much as before.

I used to have two schwinn stingrays with fixed gear in Red. Loved the banana seat, it made a one person bike a three people bike. They were great.

Agree. 1985 is too recent. Gotta go back to the 60's at least. :dblthumb:
