I need a replacement rubber piece that goes on the top of the windscreen frame where the prongs from the top go into it. There are two - one on each side - and have two screws holding them in place. One of mine is MIA.

Courtesy Nissan used to have a cool website where you could search for parts from an exploded diagram but I can't seem to find it. Any ideas where it went?

Thanks

It's still there, but kinda hard to find because it's under MISC.

I'm having hard time visualizing this part. Is it in here? If so, what's the code?

I read your description again and it looks like you are missing K5308 or K5309. If so, that's called Top Receiver. It's plastic, not rubber. Which one is missing?

That's it. K5308. But if they are available I'd get both.

So passenger side is missing? Sorry, they have been in out of production for a LONG time. It's one of those parts that breaks on every vert. Even good ones are faded to some nasty gray color or cracked.

When you close the top, don't let the top hit the frame. You have to grab it and lower it slowly when top comes close to the frame. That's only way to prevent them from breaking.

I always grab the top as it's coming down but the previous owner must not have. They appear to be something I could fab out of foam maybe. Just something to receive the top and snug it in place when the latches are closed.

As always thanks for the immediate response. Glad your only job is servicing the vert community! Seriously, thanks.

Makes me wonder if it's possible to fab one up out of metal.

Someone should CNC machine it in anodized black and mass produce.

Oops! Sorry. What I meant was driver's side. Yes, passenger side is still available. Part number is K5308-6X001.

Yeah, make that **** out of metal. I could probably make one with an angle grinder, a drill, and a Sharpie.

I can probably make them. I'll look into it, but who would be interested in them if I made a few runs of them?

BTW I'm a mechanical engineering student, and have full access to my school's machine shop as well as all the solid modeling software packages...

LOL shipping is twice the price of the part! Looks like I better order a bunch of stuff to make it worth it.

I would gladly pay money for those. And one of my friends has a vert as well and I'd be willing to bet he'd want a set as well. Mine have completely cracked in half from 16 years of top closing, but still stay in place.

You know, if we each found a mod or fix for a common problem that we did well we could probably address all the Vert-specific issues. Instead of trying to fix everything oursleves we'd specialize on a few things and pool our creative resources.

My mods have been simple, tail lights, running lights, cold-air intake, new antennae, etc. but are still useful to the newbies.

I'm gonna work on the little black peice of plastic that holds the boot in place and attaches like a Zip-Lock to the boot. Mine is brittle with age but looks like something I could find at Home Depot.

That's a really good idea. I've been thinking about fixing up the plastic interior piece on the windshield. The one that the dome light sits on.

I can also grab some shots of my mirror wiring while I'm there as well to do a quick write up on how to install a map-light rear view mirror if nobody has done that yet. Of course, I ran like a 5 foot long wiring harness to the mirror when I could have done it with about 5 inches...-_-

The big ones I'd like to see people do up are some solid solutions for the 1/4 window clips. With as often as they break, I'm surprised nobody's done a definitive "how-to" for fixing them

I did one and went the long route as well. Just no one cared.

I knew someone did a write up like a month after I installed mine (I did mine up Dec 06)

I ran mine all the way down too, but after thinking about it, the easy way would have been to use the dome light's hot wire (as the door ajar switch is a ground complete, the light is always hot) and then just ground the map lights out on something in the header

And I do care!
