Here's a pic I pulled from Eric Hsu automotive blog. It's of a test between a cometic (left) a stock mitsu multi layer metal (center) and a cosworth (right) for a 4G63. They torqued the headgaskets down with ARP head studs to 90 lb/ft. For this test, they took pressure film and it leaves an imprint on clamping load and distribution. The darker the impression, the better. As you can see, the cometic really doesn't seal as well as the stocker or the cosworth. In fact, Eric noted that the seal around the cylinders is backwards. It goes from a very light inside seal to a darker, better seal when it should be backwards (harder seal on the inside to a lighter seal on the outside)
Just some food for thought.
