Hi,
I live in Ottawa, Canada. Our winters really blow. We get a ton of snow and needless to say, I need enough clearance to make sure I don't damage anything under my ride. That said, I'd like to lower my AC . Springs won't do because they permanently lower the suspension right? Whereas i can adjust the height of the suspension with coilvers? I want to lower the car during the summer and raise it in the winter. I just want to make sure before I drop 1000 beans.

Thanks

Yup, you'll just need an alignment every time you adjust the height.

I just switched from BC Coilovers back to stock shocks with H&R springs. The coilovers were a nightmare to deal with. Absolutely s***-poor ride quality, lots of noise, components fail frequently (mounts, shocks, etc.) and just requires a lot of maintenance overall. The center tightening nuts and spacers have been know to take a lot of wear, to the point where the metal becomes compromised. See: switching-from-bc-racing-coilovers-to-e ... 72505.html

The ride on BC's is very stiff. So stiff that if I'm on -10 from hard on the damping setting and hit a pothole, I have been knocked out of my seat and hit my head on the roof.

A $1000 purchase turned in $3000 of parts and labor over the course of 2 years.

I can't speak for other brands of coilovers, but for the most part these are made for racing and simply require a great deal of maintenance.

Dude you have totally convinced me to never get coils. I will probably grab springs with the knowledge that ill have to get new struts in the future.

Sounds like a money pit to me so I'll stick with what I have. Thanks for the advice!

lol funkee must have gotten a bad set. A lot of us here are running BC racing coilovers and it worked fine for most of us. Nothing against funkee of course, I'm just saying don't take just one member's feedback to let you decide on what route to go.

I also had the coil overs for just over a year. i am now selling them as I have bought another ride and no one else in my household knows how to drive the car lowered, or even prefers it. But nonetheless, other than scraping a few places, totally my fault, I loved the stance, and loved how wide the car looked with my G35 rims. Yes the ride is stiff and yes you'll have to get your rear fenders rolled depending on your rims but the stiffness was super stiff for me because I was running low profile tires on 19" rims as well. One of my shocks failed, due to hitting a pothole, but again, you just have to drive carefully. They are a good set of coil overs and definitely recommend them. If you are interested in a slightly used set, my ad is on kijiji. Like the other posters said, do not one bad experience deter you. All the best!
