Ive been researching coilovers lately so I could drop my coupe. I wouldn't want springs because the struts would wear down and it would be inefficient and costly in the long run. Ive searched around the site for a couple days and haven't found anything so far. I was wondering if coilovers wear down and if they do, after how many miles, and how I would go about "making them new" again. If someone could help me out I'd appreciate it.

First off if you get srpings it will not ruin your struts thats BS.......

when I first lowered my car with springs a NTB basically screamed and me and told me I was stupid for lowering my car cause I was talking it out of alightment and I would go throw tires like crazy..... 5 minutes later one of the other guys at the shop pulls me aside and says "dont listen to that fat F@ck he doesnt know what he is talking about".......

your stuts might go bad after 50-70k of miles. but its not like they are going bad in 10-20k.

I had eibachs for 1.5 years about 20k miles.

I have had coils for about 6 months and 10k miles I havent noticed any problems yet.

If I were you I would get TEIN springs and try those out for a year or 2 then up grade to coils after that.

yea but what I've read so much is that springs wear down the struts about 30% faster than the stock suspension. But i still want to know if coilovers go bad or wear out.

Really David? I'm new to modding but I've heard from a lot of both experienced and less experienced people that springs wear down your struts. But I guess you're an exception / a living testimony that they don't?

Here are a few links you can read over. This one me and another guy say the wear and tear is around 75k.

Here is one that says that his shocks went out very fast.

I say the Eibachs are good investment because so many people on the forum have Eibachs. I would say almost 5 out of 10 people on the forum have Eibachs or have had Eibachs.

And so far Ive only read about 1 to maybe 3 people that have had problems with the eibachs.... compaired to the several hundred that have bought the product.... it seams like a pretty safe bet to me.

As far as the coils wear and tear... I would guess it would be somewhere around 65k+ you should start worrying about it but I dont think anyone has had there car for that long. I only know of one member who has over 100k on his car...... ps he had eibachs and hasnt had a problem yet.

I run Eibach springs on OEM struts for two years, 82,000kms. My struts are fine.

Ive had eibachs on the stock struts since the car had 300 miles and Im approaching 10,000 miles now. Daily driver back and forth to work and on some pretty rough side streets when im on base and it still drives just like the day I put them on and no wear on the struts or shocks, no noises ie creaking, banging, popping etc. So Im happy with the $200 dollars I spent until I can get some coils.

A good quality coilover suppose to give you at least 50k miles, being that its valved appropriately for spring rate, etc. The eibachs may not be too much of a load bearing on the oem struts and shocks because the drop is not that intense compared to the springs that lower your car more than 1.5". With the coilovers though you would most likely have to change the shock part, i know with BC racing replacement shock, struts are around 95 dollars, tein's i know are more expensive but ride better from what i hear.
