Ok i've got about 1,400 to spend on some coilovers. I'm looking for a set of coilovers that the upper pillow ball mounts for camber adjustment. I've been a tein user all my life, but i was recently looking at tanabe for a set. Anyone have any advice on which ones i should buy?

I haven't heard any complaints with Stance. That might be an option to look at. I like my JIC Magic's, but they are the only set of coils I have ridden on, so I really can't compare them to anything.

I've got megan racing coilovers and i cant complain. the quality is great and they are the same exact coilover as one of the apexi models..cant remember the exact model..it is a very good ride though. If you want to drop all of your money on a coilover setup get the tein with the EDFC

I heard the EDFC was not worth the money at all. I can't imagine a time when you wouldn't be able to pull over and adjust the dampening instead of doing it on the fly.

So megan actually is making a decent product then? I looked at cusco, HKS, and silk road. All of those are a lil to expensive right now for my blood.

KTS or stance are the best two in that price range.

EDFC is a waste...

bang for your buck = megans

what I'd get if I were you = HKS Hypermax II or silk roads

I use to have megan streets but sold them because they were too stiff for DD...or its just the roads in San Francisco. Even though they perform real well, i was also annoyed with a comman clunking noise on those coilovers. So to save all the headache, i've switched to tein flex and they are much more suitable for DD...downside is that there is more bodyroll on the flex than the megan streets...anyways i can't complain because i did a straight trade

pretty much what everyone else said, megans or stance seem popular....

i personally am goin with koni's and RSR springs since the car is my daily, and sadly the roads in central pa suck *** (loads of potholes and speedbumps on my commute)

cool to see another 240 owner from PA.....

ive heard of landisville before, is it out in lancaster? or am i thinkin of litiz

What causes that clunking noise? Mine are doing it. Just wondering if it is something that needs to be urgently addressed, or if it is an unhappy side effect of the coils.

copied and paste,

Me:"I think mines hate me, a lot of small problems coming from them coilovers. Sounds like spring poping everytime i turn the steering wheel. Anyways, i just picked up some used tein flex and i'll see if i should blame the problem on the car itself(bushings) or the megan street"

90SRpwrd240:"Zenkii.....I'm also having this problem with mine, started about 2 weeks ago. From what I can see, it looks like the bearing at the top of the strut that allows the coilover to turn slightly with the wheel, is getting hung up and not allowing the spring to turn. When you start to turn the wheel, it doesn't really move but then the spring adjusts itself (hence the spring popping noise) and turns freely. It's annoying the shyt outta me but I don't feel like taking it apart now becuase its like -.0003 degrees out But other than that it's a pretty solid coilover."

and here's the link....sorta thread jack SORRY

the clunking is an easy fix..im sure its just your spring needing to be tightened more..you can only expand the spring so much until it starts rattling around due to lack of pressure..you must compress it until there is no play/ rattling..also yes edfc waste of money just saying that if he wants to drop all of the money on a coilover system then thats about how much the tein EDFC cost but i dont advise it..also megan ftmfw i love mine

I figured that it had something to do with the springs rattling because it happens when I go over abrupt little bumps, and it only happens in the rear. How do I add spring preload without adjusting the ride height? The only thing that I can see that is readily adjustable is the lower spring perch. Should I be able to adjust the upper spring perch somehow? I know it would be different for all models, but since we are on the topic, I figured you could give some guidance. I checked the suspension faq, and the link on how to adjust coilovers is not working My rears do not have helper springs and they are the JIC Magic SF-1 which have non adjustable dampers. I bought them used and didnt really play around with adjusting them since both sides were set up identically, and it gave me an ideal drop just the way they were.

best way to figure out wut to buy is that if you have friends who has different kinds of coild installed on their car...or from Nico thats willing to give you a ride to get a better perspective about them coils...thats just a suggestion....it all really depends on the person whos going to use it...

nope it's landisburg, pa. Just a small town north of carlisle, pa about 20mins drive.

Well i looked at the tein flex, and if there is going to be to much body roll then i'll steer clear of them. I might consider the megans, but if they have issues with popping then i'll probably try Hipermax if I can get them for a decent price.

Well if you have 1400 it shouldn't be hard to find some Hipermax coils in your price range. On the other hand, silkroads are only a 100 or so more so do what you will, either way you'll get a great coilover!

you guys wont have the popping if you have enough pressure on the spring. There is no way to fix the rattling without lowering it a little more unless you make somet type of spacer to go in between the spring and spring seat..other than that you would just have to lower the car a little bit more

Ok. I don't really want to go any lower because it is at a good height right now. I still haven't scraped it anywhere, even entering steep driveways.

well then the only thing i could suggest would be to take the wheel off and examine the coilover and spring and try to make some type of rubber spacer or my only other suggestion would be to get some bigger rims so you could go lower

nah the silk roads are chinese junk like D2 racing and so forth. I used to bring alot of silk road RMA8 and KTS products before returns got the better of me.

GREDDY type-s ( im a bit biased as i made/helped GREDDY japan manufacture these)TEIN MonoflexDG-5

Yeah, in my opiniong, i wouldn't recommend people to use Tein flex for serious track/drift machine. Even though they are much more comfortable than megan racings, because of spring rate and the teins shocks are a bit longer and thicker, megan street(8k,6k) is just too stiff for normal driving.

Yeah so i'm relying on all of you guys to point me in the right direction, cause like I said before that i've only used Tein before, i've had the S-tech springs and the tein basic dampers. The basics are nice but do not allow you to adjust the camber, so i had my rear tires constantly being worn out.

Go with the Stance GR+ Pro. I haven't had them for long, but i'm very pleased with them so far on my S13 and they are easily within your price range.

Rear shocks don't have camber plates do they? That is what rear upper control arms are for.
