I'm irritated... I know these two cars are in different categories, but there was this Civic Si next to me side by side at a light, light turned green, the Civic drove at a normal pace... I am about 800 feet in front of it, suddenly it floors it and starts coming toward me... so I step on it, I was already in 4th gear going 45-ish so I drove... but by the time I realized it was trying to catch up to me, it was on my tail and stayed there while i was flooring it..

I eventually let off the gas because I was driving too fast for a street. It just passed right by me. I expected to pull away from it? It looked like it was brand new. No plates yet. GRRR!

I know Hondas and their I-VTEC are known for their top end performance, but I didn't think it could keep up at those speeds. Maybe it was moded.

200 something hp and light weight... power to weight ratio came into play

but if it was me i at 45mph would of drop my gear down to 3rd... then came back to fouth just before 3rd redlined... i think that race would of went different... you gave him a chance by not switching gears... just like him we have the bulk of our power in high rpms...

I don't know why but when I'm near 5,500 it just feels so rough and blah...

I should've downshifted. I suck when it comes to chosing the right gear under stress.

Haha, I didn't mean then- I mean in general... in the 6mt, it just feels rough driving up to red line. Not so refined compared to the VQ30DE / -35HR.

The g at 45 mph and flooring it, won't move. it will remain unresponsive until it reaches higher rpms.

2nd gear is the real deal for 45 mph - 60mph, and in each gear shift, try to get up to 6600rpm. You will love it.

The VQ35DE engine is untamed. Wait till you add a testpipe. I downshift all the time to a lower gear for fun, especially when i want to hear the aggressive sound of the engine and that sweet sweet stillen exahaust. In 2nd gear i have achieved 62 miles per hour---redline. Redlining the car in each gear as you shift, is a blast.

Well said! I agree. 3rd gear is the gear I feel that is most underpowered. Without test pipes, 4th gear is also good.

But since I added test pipes, my 5th gear is completely insane. The horsepower and torque generated at high speeds is impressive. I have whooped V-8s with test pipes in 5th gear---it isn't even close in some cases.

Yeah- I thought a mid-pipe/Ztube would have helped.

I'm still curious to find out how much quicker the Rev-Up engine is with its higher redline.

I hate Hondas with all my heart.I don't care how well built the Civic is, or what it's performance is, it's a big steamy pile of $%#!.Is that an unfair statement for anyone who drives one? Probably, but I don't care because they drive a Honda, and worse still, a Civic.

I've listened to idiots go on and on about how they'd rather have a turbo'd Civic than an Aston, or Porsche, etc. etc.I'd rather see every Honda on earth shot into the sun, just so my local Coffee shop's parking lot could be rid of the idiots who stand around with their Civic and Prelude hoods popped looking at their lame @$$ "engines".

End Rant.

My red line is 7000 but it really is 7500 to the limiter lol

your motor is 6500 or 6800rmp? at 260hp mines 298 at 7000rpm and more at 7400 rpms lol

The manual transmission from 2003-2004 was rated at 280 HP. Your peak HP doesn't continue to climb after 7000 and I believe the peak is somewhere around 6400rpms.

Yea the manual coupes.. the manual sedans were only rated at 260hp!

and by taking the motor to 7500 rpms when I shift into the next gear it will not be down in the low 5k rpm range but more in the 5500-5800 range.. So you stay in the peak longer! The lowest RPM that you might achieve peak is at 6400rpms. anything after that is still very close or higher as the motor turns faster and faster.

I had a long discussion about this will Gwoods and we concluded the same thing!

Power across the board for the Sedan and Coupe in 2003-2004 was based on the same engine. On paper they show less for those self-conscience coupe owners who think they need a faster car.

This has been proven by many many people.

Yeah I don't believe the sedans were detuned by 20 HP. Like any car company would, they want to hype up the sales of their "sport coupes" so of course they want to advertise it with more power.

The "280" HP coupe definitely isn't faster than my car.

I did a quick search and here is what I have found

I have read things like this before!

In fact, even though its 3.5 litre V6 - yet another variation of the motor used in the Nissan Altima, Maxima, and 350Z as well as other Infinitis - is rated at 260 horsepower compared to the coupe version’s 280, this G was subjectively the fastest iteration of the theme yet, rocketing away from stoplights, mining a thick trough of torque to waft effortlessly past freeway traffic in sixth, and snarling angrily on country-road downshifts. Maybe it was the fact that the sedan’s shifter was beautifully slick and well-weighted (while the Z and G35 coupe both have a clunky, very metallic feel), or the four-door body, which is actually a lot more compact than the coupe’s.

The Red Line is 7000 just like yours

but the limiter isn't until 7500rpms...

I know this because I shift between 7300 and 7400 rpms and never hit the limiter..

The HR is 7500 with the limiter at around 8krpms.. I think...
