I did a quick search and here is what I have found

I have read things like this before!

In fact, even though its 3.5 litre V6 - yet another variation of the motor used in the Nissan Altima, Maxima, and 350Z as well as other Infinitis - is rated at 260 horsepower compared to the coupe version’s 280, this G was subjectively the fastest iteration of the theme yet, rocketing away from stoplights, mining a thick trough of torque to waft effortlessly past freeway traffic in sixth, and snarling angrily on country-road downshifts. Maybe it was the fact that the sedan’s shifter was beautifully slick and well-weighted (while the Z and G35 coupe both have a clunky, very metallic feel), or the four-door body, which is actually a lot more compact than the coupe’s.

Of course a car magazine would follow the stock vehicle's statistics. I still think the 280HP engine is similar in the sedan. Especially without that 45 pound resonator (aka midpipe) detuning it.

I bet that damn big midpipe is the place where you loose the HP from 280 to 260. In fact I bet that mine wasn't 298 with that stupid thing in.

So you have it changed and that gives you around 280... You need a z tube and that will give you more power and at higher rpms

1+ on leaning how to shift.. If not take the wifes G lol

I've got the Z-tube as well.

The 5AT is definitely boring.

Modded civics can be super nasty. Ive seen all motor civics do 13s. Then they throw turbos on them and blow the motors. But thats a different story.

Agreed. You really shouldn't own a civic if you're older then 17. I'm just saying.

I have run with the early 1990 model hatch backs and they are fast--those little things with good mods, can take some small fire out of a stock G-35's prowess. I continue to maintian that the current generation of Honda Civics are the worst---they are too heavy.

Those Hondas are just irritating. Eh, like some of you have said and I completely agree, they're just FWDriven econoboxes with artificial top end power. I just gotta get used to using the top end power and there shouldn't be an issue.

1+...

I had some problems keeping with a SS at HWY speeds.

I dropped to 3rd, and left him in his place. I was going a good click, and decided to back off, if 5th gear using manumatic shifting... lol

Anyway, in 5th, I had no chance, he basically crept by me, and I had no power, being in the lower rpm range, don't get floored over a civic, they are quick... but when you properly engage the VQ, he'll be reading your license plate for sure.

Dear Civic SI Coupe Driver from this evening. You are a douchebag. You and your popped collar, shades at night, lane weaving and tailgate driving are the very definition of douchebag. Your plates said "SWEETSI" which reads "SWEETSIE" which denotes an inherent feminism. So when you grow up and that collar de-pops and your testicles finally descend and you can buy a man's car, I might rescind the douchebag comment, but most likely not because once a douchebag, always a douchebag.

I've never gone over 5000 rpm.

Could I be missing something?

Yes Telco you're surely missing something... but once you cross over to the dark side, you won't have the last remaining virgin G35 sedan on the forums.
