So wouldn't it be better for me to just add some ATF, drive around for a while, then change my oil instead of getting some Seafoam stuff? If it removes varnish and sludge, why not?

because seafoam dissintigrates in the oil if i understood correctly, which will cause no overfill problems. adding ATF to your oil in there already and just letting it idle or drive very very easily, the overfill won't cause any problems. if you just added 3/4 a quart to your existing oil, it could cause major problems due to overfill.

ok let me clarify:

Both are acceptable methods that can be used.

The ATF: dont drive around too much w/ it in your crankcase, as the added ATF will create an overfill condition, this is only ok during idle or gentle/short driving. The seafoam is less stuff and will evaporate out of your oil in a week..but wont work much on sludge.

Both methods are gentler and safer alternatives to the strong 5 minute Kerosene based flushes.

Looks like you guys had a great day! I think I need to try doing the ATF fluid in the oil thing for my Altima. I'm all about that car being quieter and smoother.

how much ATF do you suggest adding ? can i do this with regular oil in my car for 20 mins or so then change over to my synth stuff ? basicly 2 oil changes in the same day one to flush and clean the other regular maintence not to be done for another 2500-3000 miles ? and im assuming people should flush their imported SRs and CAs since they have been sitting for long periods at a time ?
