I was thinking of the video for Too Young To Fall In Love by Motley Crue, not that it had anything to do with maggots and what not, just an amusing video.

when you talk about eating insects however, seems some tribesmen and third world countries eat them regularly and are of high nutritional value.

Just ask Angelina Jolie!

My favorite food is Thai food - No need for salt, I just sweat right into the dish... :D

HAHA! Thai and all southeast Asian food in general is guaranteed to knock your socks off, literally. I'm part Asian so eating gutbusting spicy foods is just in my DNA, if it's not hotter than a billy goat in a pepper patch, I won't even touch it. Have you tried other Asian dishes like Philippino, Vietnamese or Cambodian? I'm pretty much a garbage disposal myself, I'll eat anything and everything that doesn't have a pulse. :D

Still recovering from Filipino/Chinese girlfriend. She was a very good cook, and seemed to enjoy watching me eat food that would make me turn bright red. So hot. ..ugh

I was in Australia for a few weeks for this study-abroad program in college. While we camped out for two weeks with aboriginal tribesmen I ate honey-pot ant larvae, sago grub, crickets and bogong moths. Taste like chicken. And tingly too. :D Actually when they roasted they tasted more like walnuts than anything. From an agricultural standpoint one hectare of us farm land can support up to 1 ton of insects as opposed to only 100kg of beef. According to the American Council of Science and Health, cochineal extract, made from female cochineal beetles, are used in everything from candy and soft drinks to lotion and lipstick. The next time you're chomping down on that candy bar, you're grubbing, literally. :D

HA! both were hot, one was crazy. ;)

Back to topic, though.. I swear I've never had such hot food as a Filipino dish, the name of which I cannot remember. It actually felt like it burned my lungs and made me choke... and this coming from a guy who drinks anchovie preservative (the ooze in the bottom of the can) mixed with tabasco on a dare.

Tobasco ain't nuthin. Philippino (of Filipino?) food is actually quite mild. Laotian, Cambodian, Guatemalan and some Mexican dishes will absolutely roast your digestive tract. If you ever venture to try a papaya salad with ripe chili sauce keep the the tums and a cup of sugar handy because it'll feel like your eating napalm.

Damn.

Y'all are making me hungry.

I was dating this Hispanic girl in college from South Tucson... Her dad was making homemade salsa one night, and asked me to go out and pick six or seven "chiltipeens" (sp?) off the plant in the yard. They were these little round berries, apparently used to make the salsa hot.

I watched as he crushed and ground them in a glass bowl with the back of a spoon and put them in the salsa... Broke out the chips, and had the best (and hottest) salsa EVER.

Spent the night there that evening (her parents were cool like that). Got up in the morning, took a bowl out of the dishwasher (freshly-washed dishes), and fixed myself a big-arse bowl of Cheerios.

One bite of cereal and I was crying like a baby - Those damn peppers had literally soaked INTO the glass bowl!!! Her dad laughed his arse off - Said he "...forgot to scrub it with lemon rinds and salt."

Damn Mexicans... :D

HAHA! Maybe it was a way of getting back at you for ummm, disturbing his sleep. :D Cruel and unusual punishment I'd say.

I can't believe the peppers would soak into a glass bowl like that. But that's how I like my fruit loops ~ substitute chipotle hot sauce for milk, kick it up a notch with cayenne peppers and depending on my mood, a dab of battery acid here and there. :D Good eatin.

My late uncle tricked me into eating one of those tiny jalepenos at a supermarket. After I ate it, my mouth was burning for a long.. long time.

..anyway, if you ever have a burning mouth, just soak some olive oil on a piece of bread and then press the bread around your tongue like a sponge. ..or you could just swig some oil around your mouth like mouthwash... :)

I stayed there for only a few hours for a flight connecting to Australia. The airport was gorgeous and the city has a real bustling, diverse, cutting-edge atmosphere to it, it's just so rich in culture and history. And me like the tons and tons of streetside food carts and vendors. I absolutely fell in lust with it. So the next time you go back, I'll be more than happy to tag-along. :D So where are you living at now? Oklahoma?
