FOR THE FOUR BOLT MAIN THING:

I MEANT IF THE KID MENTIONS A FOUR BOLT MAIN THAT MEANS HE'S PRETTY SERIOUS AND IS PROBABLY MAKING ALOT OF POWER, EITHER THAT OR HE SWITCHED TO A NEWER ENGINE. THOSE 327S CAN HAUL BALLS, AND WITH THE RIGHT LOVE AND CARE WILL WHIP ALOT OF *** IN A NOVA. I'D SAY HAVE FUN BUT DON'T EXPECT TO WIN.

I dont know exactly how fast it was in modern standards but he had a holley 4 barrel and open headers and said it was fast as hell. Way faster than my 240. With a 327 your in deep sh*t, and if it has a 350 or bigger forget it and move on. You might be able to beat the 293 depending on how much you have done and how many psi your at.

Actually Chevy never made a 293, your probably thinking of the 283 V8. The base model engine for the 62-67 Novas was the 153 cu in. inline 4 (which was dropped in 1966) and they also had the option of a 194cu in inline 6. 1964 was the first year the Nova had the option of a V8 and the only V8 available for it was the 283. In 1965 however they added another V8 option in addition to the 283, to the Nova SS Sport Coupe. The option was for the 350hp 327cu in V8. This is the one that I was referring to. It was the big dog Nova of those years, and if the guy has replaced the motor with a 350, then it wont be that much heaver.

THE 350 IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON SWAPS FOR THE NOVA, BUT THE SERIOUS POWER-GETTERS GO FOR THE 427 AND 454 BIG BLOCKS BECAUSE THE SNUGGLE RIGHT IN THE ENGINE BAY AND PRODUCE DAMN NEAR 500HP WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT.

I agree, but highly unlikely, it takes a lot to get a 454 into a shoebox Nova. 1968+ is a lot easier because they got a lot bigger after 67, but the 454 is a huge motor, and the 66-67 Novas are small cars designed for small blocks.

um...I'd say you're out $100 if the guy in the Nova can drive.if he can't, then you may have a shot. But on HK tires with only 13 psi, you're not gonna out run a 327 Nova much less a 350.

If his car is stock, it's very slow. Muscle cars were fast for their time, but they still typically only run 14s. .

you can beat him if you got an SR, you're chances are better with mods. (boost controller should suffice)

BUT. . remember, domestic V8s have a huge, easily accessed aftermarket. . and yes, they can run 9s and be legal on the street. It's sad but true :D

dude, 14's out of the box are still fast for this day:D

there were some that'd grab high high 12's and low low 13's though, probably not this guy's nova however.

I'd be a lot more leary of an older guy driving it than some douche in high school.
