So my friends and i were talking about cars with other ppl at school. All of a sudden some guy asks me what car i got. I tellhim 240. he says hell burn me with his '66 chevy nova. So im like whatever. Then my friends tell hims that i have an Sr, im like stfu!!. he asked me the enngine size and i tell him 2.0, he says " so you took out your bigger engine and put in a smaller one, thats smart" well i start to ignore him when he tells me, " ill run you for $100, i dont care what kind of engine you got"

Does an small Sr20det stand a chance against a BIG '66 chevy nova v8???

You be the judge!!

ASK HIM WHAT HE HAS DONE.... THE CAR STOCK PUSHES OVER 300 IF ITS THE UPPER MODEL, AND POWER ADDERS TO A CARBUERATED V8 ARE LEAPS AND BOUNDS GREATER THAN OUR LITTLE DISPLACEMENT ENGINES TURBO OR NOT.

IT SOUNDS LIKE HE HAS THE 350 SMALL BLOCK IF ANYTHING, HE COULD HAVE SWAPPED A BIG BLOCK ANDIF HE MENTIONS ANYTHING WITH A FOUR BOLT MAIN, HE WILL BE PUSHING SOME SERIOUS POWER IF DONE RIGHT. GOOD LUCK BUT I'D CONSIDER YOURSELF OUT $100.

The 62-67 are the smaller shoebox body style, which with a 327 under the hood weighs in at just over 2,800lbs, pretty light for a musclecar. And could have as much as 350hp from the stock motor, depending on the trim. So he is not much heaver than you, and probably has a more power, and lots more torque. I think he will take you in a drag race, now on the twisties? Thats another story.

4-bolt main, referrs to the number of bolts on the main crankshaft bearing caps not power. A 4-bolt small block however will be more durable than a 2-bolt small block, but just because it has 4-bolt mains, doesnt mean its necessarily going to have more power than a 2-bolt block. Ive seen some nicely done 2-bolts outpower a 4-bolt block with the same displacement. Either way I think hes out $100 bucks too.

The year he is talking about (1966) Chevy II/Novas did not weigh 3500lbs. In 1966 the top of the line Nova Super Sport Series Sport Coupe had a curb weight of 2,870lbs, and thats with the 350hp 327cu in small block. The shoebox series Chevy II's (1962-1967) were very small and light, and were ment to compete with the Ford Falcon. My friends 62 2-door, with a 383 stroker 9" rear end and no interior, weighs in at just over 2,300lbs.

SloMoe is correct, Nova's are very light cars for their time... and seriously fast w/ V8's. A lot of my friends look down on muscle cars and don't realize they can hit 12's and 11's with slicks and minor adjustments. Kids these days :pface

still ~2900lbs for 350hp...man I wouldn't mind that kinda power to weight ratio for my s13. Then again, there's another thing you can do to even out the race a bit, get a steel toe boot and put a small magnet on the inside of the boot. Carefully place a nail on the boot so the magnet holds. Kick his rear tire to drive the nail in when "inspecting" his car. Pray to god he didn't notice, then go go go!!! Ha ha ha. (btw I was just kidding about the nail as that'd be a dirty trick to do just to win...)

but it also depends that is an old car, and if its got a ton of miles, then thats a plus for you, and it also depends, if his trans is weak, ect. thats an old car and if its been rodded to hell and back, ect. but if hes done work to it he will take almost any of us for a ride. U might take him, hell with a stock ka i killed early 90's camaros, as long as they were stock.

I'd have to see under the hood, he could have anything from the stock straight 6, to fully tuned Big Block Chevy 454

How much boost are you running?

What rear end do you have?

What tire do you intend on rolling out with?

I think if you roll out with some decent tire running 1BAR of boost, you would have a chance if his is closer to stock than yours. I'd run him anyways. I never thought I would take my friends LS1 or a GT that thought he was tough.

It kinda matters what cond the nova is in aswell , i mean if its a nice one all done up and looks kinda new forget it.. but my friend one time had a 1965 buick special with a 310 wildcat in it. it sat in my friends driveway for years and when he drive it my 1992 sentra 1.6L could keep right up with it... you see in all those years it lost HP somehow... could have just been the spark plugs/ ect but i dono.. but still... if its stock and the kid dosent do much work on and it looks like a POS i say go for it the red tops are fast! :] but not that fast if its in Like new cond, or anything close to it... or just watch him try to show off outside of your school if you think your car goes faster do it...

Hey Slomoe the 62-67 novas actually had a 293 as the base engine. It was rated at like 225 hp. My dad had one, it was a 3spd on the tree and would do about 105 in second. I dont know exactly how fast it was in modern standards but he had a holley 4 barrel and open headers and said it was fast as hell. Way faster than my 240. With a 327 your in deep sh*t, and if it has a 350 or bigger forget it and move on. You might be able to beat the 293 depending on how much you have done and how many psi your at.

dude...if it has a 454, you should just give him your car and walk away...no words...no eye contact...just drop to your knees, kiss his ***. and then give up your car and never look back...
