That is sooooooooooo nice. I'd give my left nut to own it.... but I'd ruin it by driving it. How can you own that car and not want to take it out and use it like you're supposed to!!!!! Aaarrrgh I guess if the original owner bought two of them I could understand keeping one in the garage. But the a$$hole traded it in on a MUSTANG....... IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very small and insignificant sacrifice. But it is probably as mint as the Z since it has never been used (although the wear and tear from those tight panties may cause damage) .:D

AGH!

I love the z31 ! I wanted to get one of those before buying my 240 but they were all beat up and abused and the mint ones were out of my budget. It would be cooler if it was black tho', i really hate champagne/tan

Amazing condition, but not the best year for the Z. Tacky, dated interior. Sorry, I'd prefer a 350z (or a clean 1970-71 240z) over this car.

mmmmmmmm... 240z... I so love that car.one day i will own one...... oh yes... I will.

and my next car will be a 350z! of course after I get a good job... and um... have some money :)

I am allowed to dream...

that Z is in awesome condition.. I am really surpised that the price is up to what it is.out of all the Z's.... seemed that the z31 lost its value the most.

The fact he traded that in for a Mustang, makes you question the quality of the home that Z was in... : )

200 something miles of ham fisted ,clutch dumping mustang type abuse .

it was a cobra , they arent such a dated car anymore , not much left of the 1979 ford fairmount underpinnings of witch it came from . IRS and a dohc blown V8 dont sound bad but im more of a Z car person

still , why not a 350 z ? just weird , wish someone could find out the story . maybe the car belonged to a old dude , he croaked and his kid who it was left to in the will got rid of it so he could have a stang , belive me it could be worse it could have been traded for a Civic HX ......

I feel like it is 1984 and I'm sitting in the Nissan dealership looking at the car I couldn't afford, those were about 22k new. I bought a non-turbo 1984 that i still have, with 156,000 tough miles.

To Bubba, my interior is awesome, it is not dated, it was WAY ahead of its time. The seat in my 300ZX remains the the best drivers seat for ME of all time, even my 97' Q45t doesn't compete with that seat, they don't make them like that anymore. Very classy interior and way ahead of its time. Compared to the camaros, firepiles, rustdangs, RX-7, and others of the the time there was no comparo....

Pretty impressive. Interior reminds me of a Star Wars toy. Very retro-cool, I had forgotten about those "progressive led-bar" gauges...

Makes me want to put on some gold chains and my amber cop-shades, grease up my hair, put on some hai karate, unbutton my silk shirt and drive to Vegas.

Hey BadQ45T, Uh, buddy, the interior is dated. I'm glad you like it. I'm sure there are lots of guys out there that agree with you. But the Millenium Falcon digital look, with the chrome trim, angled accents and busy styling were popular in the mid '80's (even the Corvette had it), but Nissan went back to analog guages and a more sporting functional style in 1989 and ever since. I agree 100% with you about the Z seats. Far superior to anything ever put in a camaro, firebird or moostang. But as far as collectibility goes, as great a car as the '84 Z was, it will never go up in value or be coveted by collectors as the 1970 Z. Sorry.

The z31s, especially the '84 through '86 models were the worst Z built (or maybe almost built). Poor reliability for a Z, hard to work on, ENGINE FIRES! Take a look in Auto Trader. You can buy 50th Aniversary editions with good cosmetics all day long for $3500 or less. At a national Z club meeting several years ago, Nissan APOLOGIZED for the Z31!

There is a company that is making a nice living swapping the 280ZX turbo motor into Z31s.

One last thing. That Disco Disneyland Dashboard will die and take your checkbook with it.

If you realy want one, look at the later years (smooth nose and 5 lug wheels). By '87 they were better and the 88 and 89 were not that bad.

The real desirable special edition was an SS model, 87 I believe. They were the first cars to have the white pearl paint and very few were made. If you can find one, figure $10K to $12K.

i had no idea the older 84-86 Z's were that unreliable, but i read a lot of recalls about 'em so i guess so, i always liked the "smooth-nosed" Z-31' turbos anyway, hmph :pface

gimme one of those in black baby!

That is bull, they are not unreliable at all. I've got 150k on my 1984 and while there were some things that Nissan did recall, the fuel injectors for one, the car has been rock solid for me over the years. Of course I have a new alternator, shocks, struts, springs, and rubber parts that wear after 19 years, but the car never stranded me and was driven daily from LA to Phoenix and back many many times.

The have their challenges but they are great cars and unreliable is not one of their traits, take it from a 19 year owner.

yah i didnt think they were that unreliable either , most of the ones i have seen have ususly been in good shape mechanicly , there just like any nissan you take care of it and it will take care of you .

but i have heard of the digital dash and injector problems alot , every car has a archilies heel

SKY where ya been ? havent seen much of ya figured we scared ya off with the "ladies" thread

You gotta remember, Nissan has always built fine cars, (with the possible exception of the old Datsun B-210. Anyone remember them?). The '84 Z, even it's FlashGordan meets Saturday Night Fever styling, (sorry BadQ) and will not go down in history as Nissan's best Z effort, but it was better and much more reliable than most vehicles sold back then. Think about how reliable American cars were in the mid 80's. I'd say the Z was a bit more reliable than a K-car or Celebrity Eurosport.

Bubba - Think you missed the mark on the B-210 comment. There are a TON of them here in AZ still running strong. My buddy has an old wagon (late 70's?) with 340K on the clock on he original motor. Smokes and sputters, and you can shift it without the clutch, but it still runs strong.

Everyone I've known with an early 210 says they're bulletproof.

If you are looking for an embarrassingly bad Nissan consider the 310. The first front wheel drive Nissan imported into the states, poorly designed, the transmission was so loud you couldn't talk in the car. It wasn't even particularly well built.

The first Hyundai was a better car.

Chrome accents in the interior???? Not in mine, I have the leather digital package and there is no chome as all. You couldn't give me a 1970 240Z, sweet to think about but very uncomfortabel to sit in.

I don't see "flash gordon meets sat night fever" but that's just me. Most people that see the car think it is brand new.

As for the "reliability issues, the dash and injectos? The injectos on all the 1984-1989 were recalled as were all the Maxima's of the same era. The dash does have a few quirks here and there, but they are all now easily solved.

We'll just agree to disagree, but that fact that a mint anniversary edition sold for 22k shows you that despite Bubba's post, somebody does see the collectable value. I'm not going to say that mine is collectable, but it shows that there is value.

AZ. We may not be talking about the same year B-210. I'm talking the first year. I spent a lot of time in an original B-210 hatchback - The one shaped like the Opel Cadet. A friend of mine had one.It was small, cramped, fragile, rust prone, anemic performance, and made instantaneous lane changes during crosswinds. On the plus side, it got good gas mileage and was inexpensive to purchase. He dumped it as soon as it was paid off. In my opinion, the early B210 Hatchback was not one of Nissan/Datsun's best efforts. I think the later 210's were bigger and better.

BadQ. That's what great about this country. Everyone can have their own opinion and buy what they want. There are many that believe that the 1974 Mustang II was a POS, but there are also people out there willing to pay thousands for one with 500 miles on it. I'm glad the seller got so much money for his '84 Z. I hope the new owner enjoys it as much as you've enjoyed yours.

Regards.

I think that the Datsun B210 was equally funny and a totally POS. My friend had a 1976 B210 that his mom bought him brand new before he went away to college. I met him in 1979 and by that time the car was trashed, the seats were all torn up made out of really cheapo weapo vinly, the engine ran like ****, and on top of that he had the automatic transmission which was failing but made the car SOO gutless it couldn't get out of its own way.

That car was an embarrasment.
