My "Service Engine Soon" light came on the other day. In order to save on a 1 hour round trip to the dealer plus a good hour's wait I thought I'd drive 5 minutes on a auto store and have them pull the code. Well the code is reading "Bank 1 Lean". I just had the oil changed a few weeks ago and I'm at 9,400. Now the old guy that pulled the code wasn't very well orientated with.. to be honest a whole lot he seemed and I hate to say it, too old and was confused half the time at just about everything. Although his first bit of advice was the engine needs serviced because the light came on, take it to the dealer for servicing lol. I had a check engine before come on right after I bought it and it was the gas cap. At the time I went to the same auto store and I'm almost sure they had pulled the same code? Am I remembering that correctly? I mentioned that to the old guy but he was sure I should have the engine serviced or have the O2 sensor replaced. I asked him to clear the code to see if it came back on again but he hadn't a clue how to clear it.

the fist thing i would do is check thegas cp.

then follow these steps...
how-to-extract-a-check-engine-code-on-a ... 32194.html

it does work you will have to be patient, i have done it before.

That was the first thing i checked the fuel cap, i even filled up. I already have the code pulled so I won't have to go through that ordeal to do it but thanks for posting. Honestly I can't understand why anyone would go through pumping and pushing pedals and counting flashes when they could get the code pulled for free.

becasue when you do it this way you dont have to deal with others.

besides you sound like you were unsure about what he told you, this would double check.

Thank you both for taking the time to respond. I've to take it back to the dealer to have a vent replaced soon and will have them check it out then. I'd love to go through the entire procedure to get the exact code but honestly that's a lot of pushing and pulling then counting for me. After a day at work that's just too much lol
