new as in brand new? The only BRAND NEW cars close to that price range is the Neon RT4 and Mazdaspeed Protege. Dont even bother with the new Civic SI. Also the Mini Cooper S is pretty neat.

Mopar will have parts for the new Neon. They probably do already. The Neon cost around 20k and runs low 14's. Its a badass car stock. The HP rating is what it puts down to the wheels too. Other companys make Neon parts already.

The turbo protege is moded by Mazdaspeed, which is basically like Nismo for Nissan and Mugen for Honda. The Protege has been around for a while now and aftermarket parts are already available. This one cost 18k or 19k.

The mini cooper s doesnt have much support yet but dealerships have tons of little stuff for them. the S is around 20k too.

the base model is like 16k, so 20k for a S is about right. Last time i checked it was, i need to check now.

to throw in a nissan: Sentra Spec V's are affordable, and I would also look really hard at the Jetta 1.8T, they have 180hp stock and a chip upgrade will get you into the 200's on torque and horsepower, if I had to get a new car...that'd be what I would want, they can be had around 17-18k.

Theres cheaper, but not faster. You want cheap? The Kia Rio is like 8k, spend the other 8k in custom mods :D j/k

Yup, yellow specv on this board got a nismo package one for like 21k or 22k.

The VW's are slow stock but can be made quick very easily.

Of all of those, i would go with the Protege. it not only has some good power, but its built to out handle most cars. the spec V is good too. its a tie between the two.

Ive heard of this too, but the car just came out so id like wait a bit and see the horror or not stories.

From the list, id pick the Neon. Best bang for the buck.

I really dont like the Neon, and i am not a big fwd fan, but the Neon is just something else, it only has HP.

i am looking forward to seeing what the 05 mustang v6 will be like. 250hp, rwd, and weigh about as much as are 240, and cost less then 18k, not a bad combo. we need more cheap RWD 200-240 hp cars

Where did you find spec for a 2005 V6 stang? Everywhere i hear that the V6 wil be dropped from the line and it will all be V8's. It will go GT, Mach 1, Cobra.

i agree if you want to mod dont get a new car or you will be paying out the *** for little parts. little parts add up and when you mod cars things break and dealerships will void your warranty for the smallest mod

exacly, he's going to spend an assload buying a brand new car, void the wareenty, take off his brand new parts to replace them with super expensive aftermarket parts that just came out, seems like a whole lot of waisted money, with a budget like 18 grand, he could go pick up a mkiv supra. that would kill anything he could buy around here new.

Well the Mach 1 is just a one year thing. kind of like the boss last year. every year they are going to put out a special model. As for the V6, its the best selling mustang there is, so why would they drop it, and from what i hear they are either going be either useing the 3.5 DOHC engine from the escape, or there 3.0 DOHC engine. with either and be rated from 210-250 hp. then they will have the GT with about 300-325, then the Cobra with 400+ Hp. and they might even go to there new 5.0 DOHC engine for something. then there is the pontiac Solstic witch like it could be pretty fun with the SC 2.2 ecotec, or that Razor conpect from douge.

sorry guys but I'm gonna disagree with you on the neon my friend owns one, there are alot of parts for neons but there not the fastest car stock,i'm going with the mazda RX-7, those are really fast cars.

Well that would be nice if they still sold the RX7, they dont even sell it anymore in Japan (witch i think they sold tell 2001). as for a used one, yes you could get one for under 20k, but the problem is, is that its still a used car, and a used car that needs extra tender loving care then a nomal car. witch for the most part you can be pretty sure it did not recive all the time. so you have a 10-7 year old car, thats expensive to fix, and requirs more upkeep. I would rather pick up a C4 Vette, or Z32 TT over an RX7. Dont get me wroung though an RX7 is one nice car, and i would like to have one, but i just dont have the deep pockets that car takes to play with.

How about a newer used car, like a 2001-2002. Then the Z28 or Mustang GT could be an option, there's a ton of parts for them and they're pretty fast. I think if you want a late model RWD car, that's the way to go.

Well my friend already has a Mustang, he just thought there really wasnt a better bang for the buck on a brand new car. but it really comes down to what you want in a car. Mustangs has the bigest market, but the fit and finish sucks. and if your tall your going to have a hard time behind the wheel.

For me, i couldnt own a 99-03 stang for the fact that i dont fit. i also hate the fact that there is so little when i comes to compact rwd cars, and hope that car companys bring back some of the less expensive rwd platforms back into the market, or maybe more awd.
