There is a rash of cheap na s14 headers on ebay, but they seem to boil down to 3 varieties. The obx version, often duplicated, has the down pipe incorporated. Then there is the type that your original downpipe/cat bolts to. And finally the pacesetter version. Who has tried these, and are any of them better/worse or just not worth it?

I have a pacesetter header. I got it for 170 shipped to my door 2 day express shipping. It was painted black but not with high temp paint. The paint peeled off and it now looks rusty I dont mind the rust cuz it matches my strut towers lol.. Other then that fitment was perfect. Although i blocked off my egr so I can't comment on how that lined up. I noticed a performance increase and also a noticable change in the exhaust tone. A friend bought the obx header which he loves and still looks brand new outta the box to this day. He's had it for close to a year. My pacesetter is 4-1. The obx is i believe 4-2-1. Both gave noticable power gains.

Why did u block off egr? In NJ emissions are strict so i want to keep her as street legal as possible. Did it bolt right up to cat? Where did u purchase the header from for that price?

My egr was old and was throwing codes so i welded the egr on the header and bought a blockoff plate off ebay and got rid of all the useless crap. I know it wont pass inspection but i have a "friend" that can get it to pass out here on long island. I got it from summitracing.com when they were running specials. not sure what the price is now. But for 170 i'm not gonna complain about the rusting issue.

I read somewhere blocking egr actually gives you better gains..but at this expense of the engine running hotter...egr basically dumps unburnt fuel back into the intake manifold which inturns cools down the intake temps..

Are you geting any cel (check engine lights) from 1st or 2nd o2 sensor b/c of the header?

No codes are being thrown at all. I have an s13 so theres only 1 o2 sensor.

Some of them had a temp sensor on the egr pipe that would throw a code but only on CA models.

i bought the obx knock off and i have no complaints except the egr hook up cause the bung wasnt welded on correctly but ove all good product for the price 4-2-1 and i got mine for under 150.00 shiped and stay away from 4-1 you loose alot of back pressure that was i have never been happy with them

they are all sent this way you have to strip the paint off and then paint then or powder coat them your self

Did you have to bend the egr bung to hook it up?

hooked the egr system and hooked up the threaded pipe first then pulled the egr back over but if you can heat up the pipe with a propane torch hot enough or use a cutting torch just to heat it up youl be fine , it will take less time

Tried the ebay obx knock offs. They are stainless and were 127$ shipped. The egr fitting was so far off that i decided to make a new egr pipe. I used the nuts from the old pipe and some soft copper tubing. After flaring the ends of the pipe i bent it to fit. Other than that the fit was perfect and they look great! Gonna add a resonator though. They are way too loud now.

dude if you want torque dont go 4-1 you get alot of top end and lose a good amount of torque i like 4-2-1 it still keeps your torque better than 4-1

but since the ka24de's have good low end tq alredy but kind of lack on top end, wouldn't i be okay with a 4-1?

I see your point. I have not tried the pacesetter 4 into 1 but I would be curious to hear from some more ka owners who have.

yeah, the header im looking at on ebay is not pacestter though

ive always heard to stay away from pacesetter.

but i dont see where it would hurt that much to go with a 4-1 rather than going with a 4-2-1.especially considering that its a good bit cheaper.

Where are the gains in the top end with the 4-1 headers?

With 4-2-1 headers, does the motor still fall on its face in the same spot around 5.5k?

Mine is pulling real well up to 6.5 with the obx knock off, but I am using a 95 altima exhaust cam for my intake cam and a 91 240sx exhaust cam for my exhaust cam, so yours may be different.

Oh ok, so that would put you using 248/240 cam durations?

I plan to convert to a 240/232 cam duration when i replace my timing chain. Hopefully I'll be a bit better than stock before too long.

After reading up on the cam swap..and the header install..i will def be doing both..and probably a UDP. should put me close to 150 to the wheels. That should help spin those tires!

No they are both 248 cams. I used the 95 altima exhaust cam for my intake because the valve timing is better than with the 240sx exhaust cam.
