After this crazy winter, I'm looking to get a remote start from the car. Based on everything I'm reading in the thread, it seems pretty useless to go to the dealer because they don't seem to want to install an OEM remote starter. Should I even bother with the dealer or just go straight to aftermarket places to try for a remote started? I have a 2015 model with intelligent key.

My dealer, Luther Nissan in Inver Grove Heights, doesn't install them and just refers customers to after market shops. I made the mistake of having a Viper brand installed and it adversely affected the outside lock switch on the door handles - it started taking up to 4 presses to unlock or lock and I hated it. So I had them remove the remote starter and got a full refund. I then went to the shop that put on the remote on my previous car - it was a Compustar brand and it works much, much better. I'm happy with it now although it does sometimes gets butt-dialed so-to-speak if it's in my pocket. And it cost a little less than the VIper.

Hi All,

Just wanted to see if anyones heard about any advancements with the remote start options for a PTS 14/15 Rogue.

I recall the only way to do that previously was to lose a fob and have it inserted into the dash.

Anyone hear of another alternative that came out now that quite some time has passed?

I just bought my 2015 in June.
The dealer installed an auto start for me and explained that they had to modify a third key and install it along with the auto starter.

So as far as i know, there is still no alternative.

I also asked about this and they directed me to a third party they use for all their remote starter installations. He didn't say anything about voiding the warranty though..

The dealer just installed an Astrostart RS-611 remote start on my 2015 Rogue sv fwd. He said the oem remotes lack the distance of the after market remotes.....works fine except sometimes when I open any door it shuts off the engine.....it does not do this all the time. I will have to figure out if I am doing something different each time that results in the engine continuing to run or not or if it is just flaky.

I determined that if the doors are unlocked and I start the vehicle with the remote it will shut off the engine when a door is opened. If the doors are locked when I do this the motor will continue running.....problem solved.

May I ask how much the dealer charged you in total for the parts and installation? I'd like to find a good remote starter as well and am trying to get a sense of cost.

This has happened to me as well, about 4 times now the engine shut off after getting in.

The only things I've done differently was once open the trunk before getting in the driver door or had the passenger get in before I did.

The dealer threw it in when I purchased the vehicle........otherwise it was a $630.00 option.

darkelipse04 make sure ALL the doors are locked before you start your vehicle remotely and remember if you open the trunk the doors also will become unlocked. Try this and see if your engine will continue running after getting in.

drummerguy,

I am very interested in the remote start for the 15 Rogue as well. I have a question regarding a $630 remote start option that your dealer mentioned. Do you, by any chance recall if your dealer was offering you a Nissan remote start kit or aftermarket one?

This is an aftermarket one by AstroStart. Like I said before I was told the Nissan remote had a short transmitting range unlike the astrostart that was installed which is considerably further. For this reason they are not installing the nissan devices on customers vehicles. What the other dealers do I do not know.

hi drummerguy,
I live in Ontario as well, can you please tell me the name of your delearship? My dealership keeps telling they don't want to install a remote starter because it does not work on the 2014 Rogue.
Thanks.

Just bought a 2015 Rogue SV with pushbutton start this summer.

I had a local installer put in a DSE single button, one way remote start, and now, when we're starting to get some cold mornings, it doesn't work. Apparently, the chip in the embedded key sometimes isn't detected in cold weather with the current install. The local installer will try redoing the install, but this is a "known issue" with no good solution. If worst comes to worst, they will refund our money.

Does anybody have a lead on who makes a remote starter that works in cold weather when I need it most? I live across the lake from Plattsburgh. We already have the 3rd fob to sacrifice. We just need the stupid thing to work in the cold.

I am close to purchasing a 2015 Rogue SL, but I am hearing mixed messages as to if a remote car starter can added on safely. If so, is there certain specifications/models to purchase?

I have a 2015 Rogue and am wanting the remote start installed. My local Nissan dealer says they have only done a couple Rogue remote start installations and they have come back and wanted it removed. They will not do it.
I saw a video where they did it, but then they lost use of one key fob because it had to stay in the car. I don't want to do something that is going to cause a daily problem.

What options do I have? And has anyone in SoCal / AZ had this done and know somewhere?

I see a thread about 2014.. But no clear options either.

Yes, maybe the title should be changed to 2014/2015.

You do know that they're both 2nd gen models, ergo a remote start system for the '14 will work on the '15 (not to mention the '16).

Thread title modified.

Just bought this for my wife. Got a great deal cuz it had 3K used as a loaner. Only problem, no remote start. My car has it, she's jealous, I don't need to explain how that works out. Sooo, is there a reasonbable aftermarket plug n play remote system avail? I'm sure the dealer would want big bucks. Lookin for something I can add without junking up a new car. Thanks in advance!

Really your only option is to go aftermarket. As for which one its a personal choice depending on the options you want with it and the price your willing to pay. You can ask the service/parts dept where you bought the car if it can be added and how much just to have a comparison.

I know viper has a great remote start system. You should also look on youtube and see what brands were used in the videos to make your decision. Also, make sure you don't get one that needs to have a key wired up with the system, otherwise, you are literally asking for trouble.
