Center Console got burnt

Hi all,

We have 2012 Nissan rogue. 3 days ago my wife found out that the center console got burn badly. We did call town truck to bring to Nissan Dealer. Unfortunately, they said that it looked the burn started from top. We are sure that we didn't put anything on top of that center console. The car was sat there during snow last Thursday. Please see the image and give me your feed back since the dealer won't cover the damaged. The dealer asked us to work with our Insurance.

Hmmm.... do you have anything installed on the windshield or parked some place where a mirror (or something) could've focused a sunlight to that part of your car's interior? That is weird. The burn appears to be really focused on that part.

Melted the center console, and both seats. Seems odd to me.

No, I didn't install anything on the windshield. The car parked on the driveway for 5 days. It could be the sunlight.

Why don't you carefully examine the spot you parked your car? I think sun reflected and concentrated inside your car from a curved and shiny surface.

You were lucky, the car didn't burn completely.

wow holy crap! couple questions:
1. do you have anything hanging from your rear view mirror? like a crystal or pendant?


2. did you park near a tall building, that had sunlight on that spot?

3. did you use any harsh chemicals to clean the interior with?

4. did you leave any lighters in the center console?

WOW, you need one of those folding barriers you put inside your windshield. I'd turn it into insurance, 2 seats plus a console has to cost quite a bit. If they deny the claim, fight it.

That to me looks like a reflection from the rear view mirror.
