There are a few stray cats that hang out in my parking lot. They stick around because somebody keeps feeding them, but they climb all over the cars and leave dirty footprints, not to mention probably scratching the paint. I caught one on my hood the other day and flipped out!

While I'm sure that the lady that feeds them is trying to do a nice thing, she isn't thinking it all the way through. Stray cats have a tendency to spread disease and they are leaving a mess on the cars. Plus some people have cat dander allergies.

I would like them to leave in a humanely fashion.

I've read that cats will stay away from certain smells, such as:-Orange Scent-Lavender-Hot Pepper/Cayenne Pepper-Ammonia-Moth Balls/Moth Crystals-Pine Cones

Any suggestions on what would work best? I don't want to spend too much money on this.

especially out the end of a gun barrel. call animal control, let them know of the problem. not much else you can do short of "taking them out with extreme prejudice".

Thanks, but Philadelphia Animal Control is useless, they told me that the cats needed to be in a cage or a box in order for them to pick them up.

If I could get them in a box, I would just drive them to the other end of Philly and leave them in a park somewhere.

I think I might have to get out my old Super Soaker.

Red pepper around your car all the time. It only costs a couple bucks for it at the store. And the cats will get it on themselves, and when they clean themselves they'll hate it. They'll figure it out in a week or two.

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't have an assigned parking space. I think i'll just put a mixture of red, black, and cayenne pepper in the grass areas surrounding the parking lot.

I tried using the car cover technique at my old apartment about 2 years ago, it was just too much of a pain to put it on and take it off all the time, especially if the car was wet from the rain.

I paid extra to park in a covered garage for 6 months in the winter, and only ended up parking down there for about a week because of the cat problem. The cats were extremely filthy. See pics below. It's not nearly as bad at my current place.





Cats tend to like my cars! Why can't these cat lovers feed the cats away from parking areas?!

Find out who is feeding them and ask them to stop. If they refuse tell them that is fine as you will simply present them with a monthly bill for cleaning your car.

Alternatively, you can make flyers with her (him, tho doubtful) name and face with details that this person is the one attracting the cats to the parking lot, then each day you can put them on each persons windshield that has cat prints all over it. Eventually she will quit after tons of people get pissed at her.

Yea, thats how I used to take care of f*ckers who rode their ATVs through my back yard in Virginia. They got the picture, so should cats.

Or for a nonviolent method contact jesda about getting some old clothing of his.The cats can smell that he's been eating cats.... so they'll stay away thinking he'll come for them as well.

Honestly though, your best option is a car cover. My cats at my house KNOW i hate them climbing on my car. Someone was like they do it cuz the hoods warm. As a test i once buried my car in about 8 inches of snow AND THEY STILL CLIMBED ON MY CAR!!!!

I wonder if vinegar would work like in I am Legend? An airsoft gun will work too and won't hurt the cars too bad, though you'd have to sit around waiting for them. Maybe sort sort of proximity sensor that triggers a flashing light or barking dog sound.

Vinegar Is Used To Clean Up The Smell Of There Pee.So They Won't Pee There Thinking Is There Regular Pee Place.I Have A Dog So I Have Used This Technique.Doubt It Will Keep Them Away.Oddly My Uncle Had A Similar Problem With Geese Covering His Whole Front Yard With Poo.Throwing A Strip Of Fire Cracker While They Come Close Has Done Wonders, Not Trying To Hurt Them Just Make Them Clear There Not Welcome Around That Area.

Mad about paw prints on your car? Try having cats sleep overnight on your convertible top, getting it hairy and causing a depression in the top. I couldn't toss out a bucket of antifreeze cause I'd have a herd of dead deer on my lawn, and I could never catch the cat in the act to shoot it with a paintball gun. Thankfully it eventually left. I'll have to keep that pepper method in mind for the future though.
