I want to cut my roof off my Z and bolt in a Carbon Fiber Roof and reinforce it with a light alloy (not sure what metal to be strong enough for the roof) roll cage. I wonder if the shop with a real S14 roof does real 350Z roofs for time attack.
au contraire....depends on your goals. overlays are pointless on a track/time attack car. My RB S14 is pretty much a showcar cruiser....I have a gutted out S13 for the track. The idea of a carbon hood, trunk and roof will complete the look of the car and win points at shows. On the S13 I'd want to eliminate every heavy part with lighter ones and, yes, on that car an overlay would be pointless. Not everyone has the same goals as your so keep you mind open...

Well if you want to spend 1100 on a carbon fiber overlay that just makes your roof look "cool" then go ahead, but if I had a S14 with an RB I wouldn't be using it as a show/cruiser...but alas to each their own.

hahaha that was the plan at first...to use it on the track. But, after spending ridiculous amounts of money on it I can't bear to beat on it.

If you do overlay, where's the cut off point? G35 or 350z will work well because the roof panel is isolated by front, rear windshields and side trim/moldings. s14/13 roof is connected to pillars. Front pillar has a cut where it meets the hood, but rear pillar goes down to quarter panel.

Good luck with your S14. I'm not into Silvia's anymore, don't know why, but I wouldn't know what to do with an S14. Anyway, Here is my S14, it has a JDM kit on it now, but it had a chargespeed. To be honest I would probably turn it into a show/wangan car too.

It's actually my little brothers, but we live together so what's his is kind of mine, but he does not touch my Z unless if I let him. However, my Z is going to be for auto-x and daily driving for now. This car is so hard to work on it's making me pissed that I actually own it.

I agree with S14_sport. For a car that is a cruiser/show car, whats the big deal? Can that money be spent on performance? Sure. But as stated above, this gentleman has an issue with a leaking roof and asked for opinions on how to fix it. Besides, the minimal 'added weight' from having an overlay done can easily be offset by adding a few more lbs of boost. The G35 pictured has no issues with power, 400rwhp and 400ft/lbs. This is before the final tune as well, will be pushing 600rwhp. Oh and did I also mention it's an auto?

I didn't think it was for only a show/cruise car. Sorry, I missed reading one post and didn't know what this thread was for. Attack me, I didn't read the entire thread. I figured when kognition posted I felt that maybe we are talking about auto-x or time attack? And just for my own personal preferences, I believe that carbon fiber is for one thing and one thing only...it's too expensive to just be used for show. This is my opinion, you don't have to agree.

First off, no one was attacking you. I agree that everyone has their own opinions and it just happens that ours are opposite. No hard feelings!

yeah I definately agree to have opinions....Carbon fibre happens to be a lightweight STRONG material that is capable of replacing body parts in order to reduce weight and make vehicles perform better. But it just so happens that carbon fibre looks very good as well. People that like to make their cars LOOK good happen to seek out materials and parts that help them achieve their goals. Carbon fibre has the best of both worlds, so, unfortunately for you carbon fibre will continue to be used for 'looks' lol...

oh and btw...my car PERFORMS too.

Mike,

This is exactly what I'm looking for - S13 sunroof delete. How much?

My car rarely sees public roads - mostly when driving to-and-from auto-x and DE's.
