I have seen the carbon fiber roof on the turtle wax S14 and I'm dying to get this done for my S14. Does anyone know of any shop that would be willing to take on the task? Or that has maybe done something like this before?

your car is effing hot as it is, i would hope that if you decided to cut out your roof panel and replace it with real carbon - not just some sort of cheap overlay or flimsy FRP sammich for looks only - that you would paint it to match your car.

if anything, i would check with fab shops that work in composite materials and see what they could do to provide the raw carbon fiber, then go to a shop that specializes in bodywork to get it cut and shaped, then installed and painted.

there are no shops that i know of that provide everything in a one-stop deal.

even though its admirable that you want to lower your center of gravity by installing a lightweight roof panel, its definitely going to be so expensive that the only thing it would be worthwhile on would be a full out race car.

I remember bringing this up along with carbon fiber doors in a thread I made like 3 years ago lol. I'm pretty sure they just used an overlay for the turtlewax roof. There's not a whole lot of performance gain from it, but it was mainly to match the rest of the carbon fiber upper 1/3 of the vehicle. The only shops that will do it for you are going to charge you an arm and a leg. I'd say keep your car at its' current sex-like state.

well here is my issue...when i bought the car off eBay from North Carolina (i'm from NY) the sellers told me that the car had an OEM sunroof. When I got there I find out the sunroof is aftermarket. My whole drive back up to new york I had nothing but problems with it. The latch never worked and when it rained...it leaked! It bites. And to top it off I traliered my car to get tuned at the shop and on the way back the sunroof unlatched itself and the glass flipped up into the air! So I don't even have the sunroof glass anymore!! I would rather close off the roof and have pure metal OR carbon.

just get someone to mold your sunroof and then use that mold and put a CF on it and plug up the sunroof with it.

Like what r3v_v3ng3 said, if you really wanted the carbon roof, just get carbon inserts for the glass. I'm sure that that would be much easier/cheaper than the whole roof switched to carbon.

im sorry but i dont think "doing it the right way" woudl be the right way at all. not only is it not worth it to cut up a good roof, but you're sacrificing structural integrity to do that

also another problem....the aftermarket sunroof I have is not even close to oem sunroof size. This thing is huge. probably one and a half times as big as the oem sunroof. a friend of mine thats done body work for years told me the best way to replace the roof is to get an entire roof from a 240 with no sunroof, cut off the current garbage roof and then weld the new one on.

hmmmm....im sure it would be expensive....just ball park im figuring anywhere from $1000-2500. but I at least owe it to myself to try and get a quote.

I know the structure on a lancer is completely different, but, i saw a lancer with carbon hood, roof and trunk and it was simply amazing.

If i ever was to do it my car would definately end up as a garage queen....

I would do what your friend suggests, I don't think you can put a price on a CF roof that hasn't even been produced yet. Its gonna take someone some r&d then production.

Thank you for the reference Murda-cOur roof is not available to the general public. My reasons are that it is not for looks, and not made to look nice. It weighs 5lb's.... which basically makes it a magic bullet in the world of time attack. It took 70lb's off of the Silvia. And the car must absolutely have a roll cage in it for safety. Some things like the roof, i cannot make available because of safety and liability alone. Unfortunately, Nissan charges around $500 for a new sunroof setup. Our sunroof deletes are also for track, as they allow you to remove the sunroof, and that is around 24lb's of overhead weight.

If your still interested in the carbon roof idea,I know of a place in Mass that did one of our customers G35's. Yes, it is an overlay. However, it came out very very nice. For just the roof, I was told they are charging about $1100. To fill your current hole is an entirely different story I'm sure.

Here are some pics!

And the rest of the car just for fun. New wheels are on order btw.

ok.....Now you're talking. First off I would have loved to have a real complete full carbon roof, but, if an overlay can look THIS GOOD. Then I'm definately interested. Please fill me in on the info for the shop that did this. Mass isn't too far from me...

Why are you getting a JDM S14 roof? Aren't all S14 roofs the same?

The name of the shop is in the second to last pic. Ventura's in Lowell, at least I think they are in Lowell. The guy that owns the G is who told me the pricing, so please don't get pissed if its wrong. Good luck!

Overlay's are pointless...it's adding weight to the car, which Carbon fiber is NOT supposed to do and you're paying $1000 dollars for it, not to mention you could make it yourself! The point of Carbon Fiber is to make the car lighter, and to get this stuff it is POINTLESS! I want to cut my roof off my Z and bolt in a Carbon Fiber Roof and reinforce it with a light alloy (not sure what metal to be strong enough for the roof) roll cage. I wonder if the shop with a real S14 roof does real 350Z roofs for time attack.

Our sponsored time attack 350z http://doubledown350z.com/sponsors.htm is getting a roof next. If we know customers that run in Redline time attack, we will produce those parts for them. We are also a sponsor for the Redline time attack going on our 2nd year now. So everything we make performance wise gets track tested. We did make a custom roof for the Scion Speed World Challenge car this year. We also make race doors using the oem door frames and carbon skin the doors down to 20lb's. Sorry i don't visit here more often, i probably should if some of you actually race. That is what we do.
