so the other day i went to my backyard (yes i park my car in the back yard so i can work on it and stuff) and i went to start it and back it up a little. (it was parked near the pool and my dad was putting up the fence again around teh pool and my car was in the way) the next day (today) i go and try to start the car again... nothing. when i press teh clutch and turn the ignition all i get is one little click. all my lights come on. my dash has the "check engine light" on, the Oil light on, and the battery light on. im baffled here as what to do now. its charging through a charger right now and has been for about half an hour. can someone help me out?

sounds like the starter is frozen. get somebody to tap on it with a bfh while you turn the key, should work. I was also thinking your battery terminals could be loose but if all of your lights work after you turn the key then that should be fine. if that fixes it, hitting it with a hammer, then it's likely that you will need a new starter very soon.

you will still get all your lights, and the dash lights too, but if its too far dead, then theres not enough charge to turn it over. The starter is on the passenger side nearest to the firewall... google it

ok cool. thanks guys. ill take it to autozone this weekend to get it checked. i always thought most starters were on teh driver's side and higher up... guess its different on a 240... cool something new. looks like i have even more of an excuse for an SR swap since ive got floating valves too.

dang that sucks... i guess its just armagedon day for 240sx's today XD how come you dont just replace the starter yourself? the only problem i had was locating it. most other cars have it on the driver side and higher up. (then again ive only had most experience with FWD cars) but now that i know where it is, its a simple matter of getting the part and swapping it in...

I wouldn't think changing a light would be a big deal. I've swapped headlights, interior lights, gauge lights, etc with the battery plugged in.

yea thats what i thought but idk any other reason it would short out the starter maybe it was just a weird coincidence.

i dont really have time to change the starter because i got work tomorrow till saturday. plus i had to get my car aligned so kill two birds i guess

^well more like a few birds flew themselves into our engines... but whatever. XD

ok so i pulle dthe battery and got autozone to test it. they said its fine. so i had my little brother try to start the car while i looked at the engine. everytiem he turned teh ignition, there would be one tick. that tick came from a fuse box under the untake near the headlight on the driver's side. is it likely that its one of my fuses?

no i actually didnt yet... was going to today but then i cant get my car high enough in the air to get under it. where do you all put your jack stands?

if its ticking in the fuse box, is it likely that its a blown fuse or can it still be starter problems?

I really think you should try bypassing your Clutch interlock relay (Clutch switch) I had this happen to me last week. Good battery, wouldn't start with a jump, starter was good. I got the one click when i turned the key.

Good Luck

It is under the passenger fender. Everything you need is in that link, and it works for me. just look up "Clutch interlock relay/switch tutorial" on google or the nico search. Let me know if it works. :D

to be honest i would try jump starting it first. even if you think the battery is still good. my buddys 300zx was having the same symptoms.

and like everyone else says you can push start the car by poping the clutch. very useful imo.
