alright, so my car has had this problem for awhile, but i haven't had the time to fix it. And it seems like it is getting worse so i really want to figure out what it is.

What happens is when i start it i have to give it a little gas, or else it will just die, and i have to continue giving it some gas for a minute o so, or else it would just die. Lately, even when i give gas at the start up, it doesn't start. I just have to keep cranking it till i hear the engine come alive a bit, and then give it some gas to stay alive.

Also, if it is warmed up, sometimes it idles higher then normal, and then it will go back down. THen continue to jump up and down durng idle. ALso when i give it gas , it starts to die a bit and then the rpm's start to go up.

any ideas?

We need basic info about your car to be more helpful.

What year/model is it, what motor do you have, have you modified the car at all, have you checked for ECU codes.

Start with basic tune up. Plugs, cap, roter, plug wires, air filter etc. Replace any of the above that you have not allready changed.

That shouldhelp and if it doesn't then it wont hurt.

Clean your MAF, and replace your air filterfailing that try to remember the last time the fuel filter was changed and if you can't remember... CHANGE IT

you could also pull off the idle control valve and clean that .

your car is eitherA. Starving for AirB. Starving for Gasor C. incorrectly measuring the air or gas and making the wrong mixture decisions.D. some other sensor.

it could be-a dirty/broken maf-a clogged air filter/intake-a clogged or broken fuel pump/lines/filter/rail/injectors

did this just start happening all of a sudden, or did it get harder and harder to start until one day it just stopped working.

clean out the IACV with carb cleaner.

Dont freak when your car wont start afterward though.Just give it some time to turnover....scared me to death, I thought I killed my sr lol.

But its good....and it will greatly help your idle.

Could a bad ecu cause this too? I mean, my car has been running rich and today she stalled out a a steady cruise of 45mph and wouldnt start. I can hear the starter turning and the battery is fine but no start. Air filter, fuel filter, plugs, wires, whole distributer unit, cap, rotor all new. Stock injectors, so maybe it could be that but idk, i kinda thought the ecu was on the way out from how it was acting. 1993 ka24de. /thread jack
