Yeah, definately annoying.
I'm checking timing right now with the light, racing the engine for 2 minutes above 2000rpm, then racing it a few times, then checking timing, all after the engine has warmed up. I'm using the diagnostic loop BTW
Now, I shine the light on the mark and the mark does not stay still, is it supposed to? It moves back and forth, before I started timing the mark I was looking for (marked it in white at 15 degrees BTDC) was moving back and forth about 2.5 inches with the furthest rightmost it would move would be about 1.5in. from the little pointer. After adjusting, it still fluctuates back and forth, but the rightmost point it hits is right on that pointer.
Is this how it's done? I don't know why the idle is doing this, moving back and forth I mean, but after a quick drive it didn't seem to change anything, the timing was just where I set it. The car is a bit loud also, could an exhaust leak cause the idle to do this?
