I like to see a new car maintain most of it's shape while being plowed into another car.bigbadberry3 wrote:Old metal cars not that safe it looks like.

Well you can clearly see why most cars come with a B pillar these days. Side impact is the worst way any car can get hit, but that Lexus went right between the rear tire and the A pillar.bigbadberry3 wrote:Old metal cars not that safe it looks like.
I won't don't new cars can handle a headon. I am talking side impact.bigbadberry3 wrote:

Do you really think car companies have made great strides in front impact safety only?raremotive wrote:

Is that your wreck? If it is I would also require one new seat cushion with the repair.Jesda wrote:raremotive wrote: I won't don't new cars can handle a headon. I am talking side impact.
I used to joke among friends, after switching out of a Lincoln Navigator into this little 3-series, that I'd be dead in any accident. I'm glad I was wrong. Modern cars have beams built into the pillars and doors to withstand impacts, and BMW built the whole car from the ground up to be a convertible which means that the A-pillar is one big structural hoop from end to end rather than just being the remnants of a missing roof.
On the 350Z Roadster, Nissan didn't take quite the same ground-up approach but they used additional reinforcements up front. This adds weight but achieves the same result.
Please dont bring nightmare of a thread back!!Jesda wrote:Lurking nearby in case the Chinalady couldn't finish the job:
