It is nightmareish to see some of these things drag on and on and on, when a good expert technican could have them totally tested and repaired in the same day.

Every owner [who plans on keeping their car for 2-3 years longer] should have a pile of used/good or new replacement parts on hand - the real way to save money.

If you don't use the parts and sell the car you ebay the excess parts.

Unlike where you are (car city) there is not even a mechanic in this area that has even seen a Q45 under the hood...and best case scenario would start throwing $$$ parts at the car as a method of trial and error while Dad would be without his car for days or even weeks. Me using this forum has resulted in more success than any other option I would have.

Can you imagine me suggesting this to someone? I am only trying to help someone else - but as they say, no good deed goes unpunished. Don't worry however, I will not "drag this on" any more. I will not post here again to avoid another nightmare for you.

My point was myself and others gave you the correct answer on 8/17 and 8/18.

These failure are so common that EVERY Q with any age or mileage has had a fuel pump and should have gotten a new or repaired FPCU.

I believe you also got a ranking of components that fail the list is small for those that actually cause your symptoms.

People who own old exotic cars [those that have few dealers] and few local technicans can be assured that they have to drive to or flat bed to the closest one frequently.

Almost every area in US has a VOTECH SCHOOL where the instructors are usually more generically competent than many Dealer technicans.

I'm happy you finally diagnosed your dad's car problem.

CCG, don't worry about it. It is just that with a 10+ year old car, the factory raising prices on old parts, one has to have a strategy for coping with parts that wear out and fail or get billed to death for replacement parts and labor.

Reading all of Q45tech's earlier posts will give you an idea of what parts and maintenance strategies one should employ to avoid expensive repairs while maintaining an imported luxury V8 in particular, and any car in general. Most of the newer ones won't tolerate negligence like the best Japanese ones did a decade ago.

Honestly, we should do a group buy on a couple of Q45 junkers for a "community parts pool" - i.e., a huge pile of parts sitting in elwesso's garage that is available for loan/purchase...

Yeah, let me tell you, that would be a GREAT idea.... The authorities above me are still fussing with me about getting REMAINING parts out, im sure that having 2-3 junk Qs laying around would be a great thing...

Once my facilities allow, it would not be out of the question.
