Most of the time, I see the "hassling" coming from the kids at the meets.
I've been at meets where a cop rolls through and kids start acting all bad and crap, talking smack, not getting out of the way, and being generally disrespectful.
IMO, that badge is the ONLY thing protecting these chumps - if that officer was a civilian, he'd bust someone's lip open.
It's good to meet up with one of the officers patrolling the area - let them know who you are, who you're affiliated with, how to get in contact with you, and that you'll cooperate in keeping the knuckleheads out.
I think some people forget that the guys in uniform are roughly our age, are probably car nuts themselves, and enjoy hanging out doing "guy stuff" just as much as we do. But they're on the job, and they gotta be straight-up during shift.
People who piss and moan about the PD mistreating them probably need some discipline in their life anyway.
Off-topic (kinda): I just finished swapping on a HICAS bar and some poly bushings and NISMO transmission mount in my vert this past weekend. So I sneak out for a bit to take it for a drive - great weather for driving, too. I roll over to this industrial park with a HUGE parking lot (like 5 football fields) and start busting some hard turns, kicking the tail out, and doing some rapid steering transitions... all the sudden I see a marked Crown Vic sitting in the corner of the lot, partially obscured by a tree. Knowing I'm busted, I just drive up to him real cool - As I pull up, he smiles and says, "Take it home."
"Yes sir, thanks."
Home I went.
