I'd guess it was the intake because I had the exact same problem on my old 240, unfortunatley I sold that one and never got around to fixing it, but I tested it once by taking out the air filter and it stopped whistling, give that a try its the easiest test. Just don't leave it out too long otherwise you'll end up sucking **** into your engine, not good.

Ok I was part of that old A/C thread long time ago basically if it is your A/C system its your clutch on the compressor engaging and then disengaging. If it is your A/C system you would feel a slight thump in your accelerator when it makes that noise. But mine does sound like a BOV I was freakin out thought it was something serious but it was the A/C compressor clutch.

Wow not sure if you guys fixed the problem yet but another thing is (hold on to you hats) your speaker grounds. If you have a bad groun on normal in car speakers, it will whine as you rev up, getting louder and louder. Its badass for a bit but then you like wtf?! Yours sounds a bit different but its possible.

u know, i have that sound too on my car. i just had a new ka24de put into a 92. and i checked all the lines i have, it cannot my intake. cause i have the injen cold air intake. which i can switched to short ram to check if it did the same thing as well. (which it did). my homies and i just guessed that it might be something witht eh pulleys or the belt. thats the only thing we can come up with. it sounds kool though i'll tell you what. when i roll out with my boys. they tell me that it sounds like i have a super charger or something like that.

this is happening to me too. when i first start the engine, theres no whistling, but when it gets to its normal temperature, there it is. i also get a ratling noise, and it gets louder in higher rpm.

just remember that some filters can be louder than the engine as it reves. if it does it in all gears, then it's engine related, if only in a certan gear, then tire/wind/speed related.

2fast240sx, is it possibly coming from your transmission?

i think it happens in all gears. mostly you can hear it when i accelerate from a complete stop. how do i know if its coming from my transmission and how do i check that?

it will be hard to listen while accelerating unless you put it on cruise and stick your head out the door, lol. seriously though, have you tried changing trany fluid recently(i would use redline mt-90) and it sounds to me like it may be the intake. do you have any kind of aftermarket/performance intake?

ive got it. after driving around my neighborhood while sticking my head out of the window to listen for where the noise is coming from, i figured out that it was coming from underneath the car. i decided to park my car in my driveway and rev the engine while looking underneath the car. i realized that the rattling is coming from my exhaust. it is coming directly from the cat converter. i think maybe its the heat shield or something. i also think that this is where the whistling noise is coming from.

i just took my heat shield off because it is rusted to hell. had to cut it off with a tourch. it still rattles a little, maby the insides of my cat are falling apart. it still passed emissions though, so i'm not gona mess with it.the k&n filtercharger will make the whistling sound, try revving the engine with the hood open, you will hear the filter, but i dont know why it cuts out after a certain rpm. maby its coming from another place. does it hapen at WOT?

wide open throttle, and before you buy a new cat, remove the heat shield and if that still doesn't do it, inspect the cat first.

somthing else to consider....

If your cat is broken down internally, it might be restricting exhaust gases enough to cause a backpressure buildup that may be "blowing" out from your egr transducer line coming off the exhaust manifold. The size of that line could create a perfect whistle.

I see alot of the rubber hoses joining the line to the egr valve have rotted off.

something to check....
