My daughter just moved at short notice from Dallas to a new job in Los Angeles. I flew from home in Honolulu to Dallas to clear out her apartment, load up her '95 Q45 to the rafters with all her belongings, and drive it the 1450 miles to the West Coast. What a joy the drive was. The Q, with slightly elevated tire pressures, handled wonderfully. I never once twisted or squirmed because of any aches from the long hours of driving. It was just so very comfortable. The Q, even with a ton of extra weight, returned exactly 25mpg.That's the good news. After I had returned to Hawaii, the Q was taken for emissions testing for California registration. No problem. Next door to the testing place was an EZLube station. So it seemed like a good idea to my daughter to kill two birds... and get an oil change. Driving out of the EZLube, she found the car could hardly move, and could only judder along slowly. She drove round the block and went back to speak to the EZLube manager. "We're not mechanics" was his response, and with that she was dismissed. She carefully and very, very slowly drove to the mechanic recommended by her new landlord. Guess what was found? The EZLube had put in a full complement of engine oil without draining any of the old. A claim is being filed with EZLube for the immediate costs, but what might be the repercussions in the future of having driven the car a few miles with a double load of engine oil ? From what I've been told, the car, with the right amount of engine oil of course, seems now to be running OK.
