man, this sounds like a good race. i have a 1990 180SX (240 fast back) and i like my car but i know that in its American stock form its not the fastest car. i was back home crusing gratiot and there wa a truboed 1st gen probe and he actually hung with me right before i got to the redline of 2nd gear when he started to pull on me. so the lazer might be able to do something i dont know i dont play with lazers. good luck to the 240 driver :xfingers

Well the 1g dsm's are faster then the 2g's in stock form. And the 1g's auto are just as fast as the manual in stock form. But modded your gonna want the manual. When the real dragsters drive autos its not like its a normal automatic transmission. It is a very suped up auto. That is made to perform its gear changes just like a manual. They use them because with the times they are pulling it would be to hard to shift perfectly without any error with that much acceleration and speed. But when your driving a car that only your reaction time really matter the manual would be preferred because essentially it is faster because you could take the car to the desired powerband in all gears. But besides that you would have no chance with that awd turbo laser, unless you mod your 240 a lot. I still think it would be hard to beat him as a N/A 240.

An N/A 240 would have no problem beating a stock turbo 2WD eclipse as long as it isn't a stock N/A 240. You're going to need a few upgrades to make up the difference. Probably more than exhaust and an air intake upgrade but that'd help. I believe that the 5 spd is a must in the turbo DSM if it is AWD of course. It is hard as hell on the car to drop the clutch but that rush of power gives it a quick launch by comparison to it's 2wd cousin.

I've driven 1 2nd generation eclipse GST Auto and it didn't slip a tire from start to finish which makes me believe that the extra control when launching and the closer gears make the manual have the edge.
