Whats your honest opinion of 6000K?

I have has a lot say it's to ricey and anything past 5000K you start to actually get worse visability.

I guess if Im going to do it, I want the most effective and the most exotic looking bulb. Im looking for a happy medium.

I know phillips makes it for sure because I've had it at once point. I don't know if hella or osram makes it because I never seen it.

Like I said earlier, 4100k is not white light nor is 6000k. White light per human perception is somewhere in there.

I think 6000k is acceptable and not ricey at all. You want to know what is ricey? 12000k and 16000k bulbs.

I can point at unpainted body kits and say, that's riceI can point at blue tinted halogen bulb that's dim as hell and say, that's ricebut I can't point at slightly tinted blue hid and say, that's rice

don't be concerned with 1% of the people will say. Be true to your own opinion/taste, it's your money, your car.

Some people can't even afford hid

Well, I happen to think if you go to blue it's ricey.

Is this a good color guide?

my opinion? no

http://en.nicoclub.com/nowiki....ature

this is a standard, non-biased color temp chart from wikipedia

as you can see, 6000k only has a little bit of blue tint.

There are other factors involved though, that is refraction of light. When light goes reflects in your housing and then go through the outer housing, or s2000 going through the projector lens... light changes direction and color.

If you don't understand what this means... remmeber looking at a seeping straw? the segment submerged looks different from the segment that's not. That is refraction of light. Back to car hids.... 2 exact bulbs will have slightly different output in different housing, which are often tuned and coated by manufacturer to manipulate light in terms of direction and color.

here is a visual for you. It looks like the only difference in the D2R vs. D2S bulb is that shield, but I know its more than that.

I can't believe the difference in prices.

some want $109 for one, others $109 for the pair.

Dealer wanted over $200 for just one.

How much are people making on these things? They are all the same bulb and part # too!

maybe you're new at this but dealers and its suppliers has high overhead to keep. Fortunely for them there are people who are wiling to pay that much because they don't know. This profit goes right to up keep cost. That store you bought from ebay, I am sure they don't have a large warehouse to pay for each month.

Fortunately for us, we have ebay to show the fair market price and we can take advantage of it.

Loveless wrote:that is untrue because 4100k happens not to be white light. It is below, while 6000k is over. I have hella 4200 or 4100k bulb. They have a yellow tint to them.

Did you know some manufacturer's O.E. is already at 6500k? Actually let's bring out the 2 standards: D50 and D65 (USA use D50, 5000k... europe use D65, 6500k)

At around 5500k is what human eye call "white" or "bright light". However, a lot of HID company manipulate the color temperature chart so some people might be confused as to what human eye would perceive as "white light". I have seen manipulated color temp charts that suggest that 4100k is where it turns blue. This is crap.
I got 9006 HID kit for my Civic with 6500K temperature. It has bluish tint. It is bright as hell. It is even brighter than 4100 or 5000K HID kits (have done comparo) .Cheers!

is your hid dot/sae or whatever approved? chances are it is not true to its advertised color temperature. If it is not name brand, chances are it is made in taiwan, china, korea and it is nothing compared to what I listed earlier: osram, hella, phillips. They are oem for a reason, they are reliable and true to its color temperature.

it will fit, and it will be fine, I run d2s on my reflector based housing and it is fine. Sure it will be a bit brighter and a bit blinding to others but it is nothing serious.

Don't worry about it.

Yes it is DOT approved. (stated on packaging) papers. It uses Phillips bulbs and most likely Phillps ballasts. I know my reflectors/lenses are brand new (R+R after an incident) Because of Honda in 91 never offered HID lenses are not designed to reflet such intense light. Also it is other people's sesitivety to HID light. I get a HI-LO blink once in a while ....

Get a set of Co Way bulbs. I'm running 6000k and they light up the road MUCH better than the 4500k I had. Here's the thread for the bulbs. Pics of my car with the 6000k's are in there
