I got a fix it ticket for no front plate.. whoops but ive been pulled over about 3 times now because of a "modified exhaust"

I had the same problem over here in LA, I had a stock s14 with a Tanabe Super Medallion or something exhaust (quality) and got ticketed then sent to the state Ref. I used the silencer and I missed the db test by a decibel or two, but the guy testing it was cool enough to "re-test" the db's with the machine farther away from the exhaust tip. Hope it helps, good luck with search. Oh yeah, the exhaust had a clean, smooth, and super deep tone. W/ the silencer on it sounded like a muted "high-revving" car inside the cabin.

There's a cone shaped screen that's really popular with the muscle head sleepers. There is a DIY somewhere on the web. You can also weld in a resonator... Way too many things to silence your exhaust that don't rob hp.

I had trouble looking for "exhaust cone screen" on the interweb.

Do you think adding another resonator and that stuff will lower me down 30 db?

have you tried just calling up the copanies and asking how loud there stuff is? i know most of greddys are under. some tanabes are. CS wasnt too loud but i think that theey were discontinued or somethin.P.S. just having a non-oem exhoust isnt illegal peaple

well they got a nice set-up at the ref's little shop i dont know if its from 1969 or not but the got a dyno.... salinas isnt that ghetto is it papi guyblow

I know a good resonator will lower it to a nice bearable tone, so will a high flow cat, it gets rid of that exhaust smell that you get on your clothes from driving around with windows down too. I'm running a catco high flow cat, resonator, and megan type 2 catback nice and quiet.

it sure is. at least in cali. i got a ticket for my exhaust at a car show with thousands of old hot rods with loud exhaust and tons of street bikes. my ticket was for modified exhaust. not for sound db. i have been looking into it and it has to be stock as in oem. not a cheep quite muffler from a shop. im fighting the ticket cause it think its bs and im saying that my muffler tip doesnt make it illegal. also i just went to the muffler shop and got some cheap muffler and put it on i know its under the limit now. but good luck with your ticket man. i hate cali laws. im moving to oregon so i can turbo!!! plus my gf lives there lol

oregon recently did or is in the process of, passing the law that says that all aftermarket parts(I.E. turbo,intake,etc) has to fall under the laws of california 50 stae legal by way of E.O. number. meaning that even in oregon, you'll have to have CARB certified parts to be legal(i used to live all around that state as well as travel there frequently)OBD 2 is a lil trickier cuz of the second O2 sensor, most exhoust need E.O. certification. but obd1 DOESNT need it. if its after the last emissions device(cat),doesnt differ from the original configuration, and is under the acceptible noise limit(95db) it is not illegal. if it was, you wouldnt be able to smog a car with it. there are also laws that stop the state and federal government from demanding oem replacement parts. if your really needing to be legal, just get an exhoust that has an E.O. number for it. but for obd1 you dont need it. just call up or go to a ref station and ask them, or even a smog station.

where i live we have no emissions testing anymore. my car has the entire EGR system removed and no cat lol

(O.P.)I have a stock exhaust that im willing to let go for $35 but you need to have the end that connects to the cat repaired since someone took a hack saw to that end. email me if your interested

ok so same s*** happened tho i wasnt in my 240. thank god,lol but i was testing out my friends Honda. tell you the truth ill take a nissan any day...anyways he has a Greddy exaust that isnt even loud..for certain under 98 DB.but what pissed me off was there was a loud a** fukin Camaro right next to me.and the cop pulled me over for the exhaust. so why dont cops ever say s*** to the muscle cars....oh and to make it worse.my brother in law is a cop in Fresno,Ca and said they were gonna start pulling over any fixed up import. just cuz its an easy ticket SUCKs a**!!!! if they slightly here your car ur done,lol yea CAli fukin sucks....i wish i could sue Greddy and DC Sports...50 state legal my a**!!! thats false advertisement. they aint gonna pay our tickets!! aight im done or im gonna end up having an anxiety attack...what you guys think??

I think as long as you have your paperwork your good. Go to a state ref and get the exhaust checked and certified. You can also download pdf files on the CARB website or somewhere for the legality statements for the headers.
