Just a noob question, if I may. You have a caliper, and a bore gauge... why are you plastigauging as well?

I double check to prevent errors in the clearances.

Another pic.

That's a nicely done swap you got there. ;)

I don't think it's a swap. He's in Europe and that is a four port head. They got the CA18 there.

very nice build... I noticed you are using an inline type nismo FPR... what's the reason? The SR20DET one bolts onto the stock fuel rail just fine!

A couple questions if I may. When setting up the oil cooler, why didn't you also relocate the oil filter? I use to not think to much of oil filter relocation until I rebuilt the motor in my daily and I hate getting oil all over my nice clean, painted engine, bay, exhaust, etc. when I go to do an oil change.

Also, I haven't owned a RWD CA, but it seems to me like they tend to sit with the front a little higher than the rear of the motor. So why didn't you put the drain plug for the oil pan at the back so you could drain out the most oil rather than at the front? Was there just too much a space restriction because of the crossmember?

Oh, and you stole my idea of painting my valve covers white  Speaking of which, I've heard white engine parts tend to "yellow" over time from heat and getting dirty. Have you noticed much of that on the valve covers? I once was thinking of painting an engine block white but have since been deterred for fear of it yellowing, and I've grown to like a more basic OEM style look of a black block.

it looks like he's running dual oil coolers instead... the stock water cooler plus the air cooler

sounds like the 4 port head can flow plenty more than a ca18 can as the size of the ports are comparable to a porsche 3 litre 4 cyl engine.

There isn't actually that much more port area on the 4 port head. I know it looks like it, but it's not. With a good intake manifold design, I think the 8 port could make as much power as the 4 port, and I'd be willing to bet that if the butterfly valve concept was integrated somehow, that it would have more area under the power curve than the 4 port.

I agree but still think the 4 and 8 port heads have way more volume than required even with short rod stroke ratio they are massive ports.
