I would put it in it, not on it.

All CAs are so old now I would want to rebuild it first, but they can be good/powerful motors.

DO IT!

the ca18det is so underappreciated by the fast&furious and FormulaD driven crazies jumping on the sr band wagon.

check out the ca18det sub-forum in the engine section and see what those guys are up to. i love the ca, just wish i had one of mine in a car instead of in my basement...

CA18DET=

No low end hpNo torqueNo thanks

Putting one in a gutted hardtop S13 is fine; verts weigh more and need more torque.

One of these days I should post dyno charts of the stock and built forms of the CA, SR, KA, VQ, and LS1.

For now, check out this thread where you can see the powerbands of stock and built CA18DETs:

zerothread/136619

Notice how there's not a whole lot going on below 4000 rpm.

If it's a 4cyl i'd go KA-T for the Torque power, next SR stroked, then CA. think of it. you're going to want power if replacing the engine, what are yougoing to do with the power? torque is much more important than hp in alot of cases. higher displacement engines bring more torque, like the LS1, VQ35, though these also add weight to the size of there engine. CA's are nice for a higher RPM base, but for where thats nice, when you build it and it's like 1/2 torque to hp, **** hurts. I'm prolly going with a KA26DET in the end, stroked, built block/head redone. my friends just turns me on.

rb20 is a pointless swap: swap out the ka24de for a smaller, more expensive motor, with less aftermarket support.

CA18, been there done that vert weighs a lot and CA doesn't have much torque. Its a lot faster than a ka24 though, so if its ca versus ka then ca will own it, ca is a good reliable motor.

So CA would be good for Daily driver?

Hey!!! Wait a second!!!

I happen to think the RB20 is a pretty cool motor. $1200 for a motor that makes 210hp stock and up to 400hp without building the block. It's one of the smoothest revving and best sounding engines I've ever seen. (yes.. sounds better than a rb26 in my opinion). I don't think it's a pointless swap. I think it's a great fit for a 'vert.

However... to be completely honest.... if I had a strong running KA in the car already.. I'd go KA-T before swapping out a new engine (SR, RB, CA, all included). It will be a cheaper, easier and much less stressful way to make nice hp goals.

I dislike rB20's much.

but ca isn't a bad swap... I rolled my vert with a CA for over a year. swapping in an infiniti v8 though need more torque.
