I ordered ARP's Head studs and they don't fit... Is this the case with everyone? or I just got screwed? They are too big and my mechanic said that he has to drill the holes bigger to make them fit. Recommend that?

No need to drill. If they don't fit, then you don't try and make them fit. Maybe you should send the bolts back to whom you bought them from and let them know that they don't fit.

Did you buy part number 202-4702?

If so, they will not thread into the JDM block, I cannot tell you if they will fit in a euro block or not as I have no access to one.

However, you can purchase part number 202-5402 which are SR20 Main Studs and use them as head studs.

There is one modification you will require though:

The stud that is threaded into the hole over the water pump will need either two stock washers plus the arp washer for the nut to torque down correctly or you can take it into an engineer to add the extra four or so threads required. You will not have any left over studs.

The other solution is to use RB studs (I am not 100% certain of the model, from very very vague memory it is RB20 part number 202-4301 someone else may chime in here with the correct model if I am mistaken) but you will have studs left over.

Hope this helps.

is it not a matter of measuring your pitch angle, thread diameter, and so on.. to find the right size studs? or am i missing something?

You can, summit racing sell individual studs with various thread profiles...

You may need to send ARP an email asking for the part codes based on your measurements.

Each part will have an individual part number..

I was under the impression you could flip the studs over and they would screw in.....that they had different thread pitch on each end.

Yes they do, and no you can't..

I tried that, on two sets of the same part number..

The opposite end is different again..

I don't know. I ran into the same issue you had, I sent them back and then ordered the SR main stud kit and had success.

I have that part number, the bolts fit but the Nuts are too big. My mechanic said that he will have to use a carbide to make the hole bigger...

The nuts are too big? That is a first. The complaint everyone else had was that they wouldn't thread into the block. The EDM CA's had a different thread for some reason.

A pictures speaks a thousand words.
