Since some of you have read my last post about someone stealing my subs, i am going to buy new ones this tuesday the 24th. I only had a "10 bazooka in my trunk, before it was stolen. Now i dont know very much about subs so im thinking this time ill have two 12s (kicker brand) in my trunk. The guy i went to is charging me $250 for the subs and the box(the kicker brand ones). Is this a good buy or am i getting ripped off. Thanks for you guys Advice!!!

just dont bump your beats when you are rolling in your neighborhood. or in places where you are gonna park for a while.

or you could do like a redneck friend of mine did after his system was stolen a couple times. Get some chainlink fence and cover it with leaves laying on the ground behind your car, then hook it up to a large battery or other power source. This is what the guy told me so it is probably bs, but it would be funny to see some crook try to steal your **** and get electrocuted.

I would find out exactly what you are getting. Kicker has some 12" subs for around $70 each at www.onlinecarstereo.com and a box wouldn't be any more than $50. Most of the time, you can save alot of cash if your order stuff online....just something to think about.

slw240sx - You should be beaten with a steel pipe for breaking into cars and stealing people's stuff.

I personally would go with 1 12" JL Audio W7 and a pretty large amp to power it but that would end up costing about $1k. I suggest going to a car stereo shop around where you live and listen to how the different subs sound.

Get the specific info on the subs. Ohms, Power out put, DVC? And what amp are you gonna be pushing them with?

I run two 12 inch MTX Thunder 6000's, and an MTX 2150 amp. These are good but I have had them about three or more years and they still hit good but it is about time to get some new ones.

The amp is good but cant handle being bridged for longer than five to ten minutes. I love MTX but mine is about ready to go.

They have lasted longer than any others I have owned.

You are overdriving your amp.

If you speakers are wired in parrallel, they are presenting a 2ohm load on your amp. That amp is not rated down to 2ohms when it is bridged. Thus the overheating.

You could try splitting the sub-out from the head unit and run each sub off it's own channel, as that amp is rated down to 2ohms when not bridged.

please dont go with this. their are a ton of subs that are better and cheaper. if you just have money you want to throw away give it to me. Personally as far as subs go, go w/ re, dd, adire, elemental design, or just go with those kickers if they happen to be L5 or L7, which i doubt.

i think the W7 is overpriced, there are tons of other better brands at the same price or lower. Some are the Brahma, DD 9012 or 15, IDmax, Mass, RE's. L7's prodced good SQ and SPL and are much cheapre thean the W7. CHeck some of elemental design new line of subs. Good quality and cheaphttp://www.edesignaudio.com/

IF you want some serious power, check out INHUMANS, treo, DD

They key here is picking the right tool for the job. AFter looking at the specs for most of the subs listed, it seems they are all very good with each one having different compromises. They key is to buy the sub whose compromises are not opposite of your install goals.

Do you want loud? Do you want tight, accurate bass? Do you want a driver that looks cool? Cheap? Small/Large?

Agreed. JLs are the best subs I've ever heard. Period. When they're well powered, the hit HARD, clear and clean. Good quality company. W7s may be a bit much, i'm sure you could have teh same amount of bass with two 12W3s or W6s.

I'm taking it easy; one 12W3 (250watt) with a JL 250/1 amp (its 250watts RMS, mind you).

I've heard that setup, and it hit harder than I'll ever need.

Nick.

if jl's are the best subs you have ever heard then you havent heard many. Jl audio is an ok brand and all but they are not that great there are a million subs (sq) that are better out their. And if you where refering to the Jl's as an spl sub then thats just plain sad.

Agreed, Jl can not hang with the big boys in SPL, but it dominates in Sq. The w0-6 is a good bang for the buck..a compromise of both spl and sq. I still think the w7 is overpriced

if i were you i'd get an infinity perfect 12 DVC. i've got 2 each getting about 400 and they sound amazing. You really only need one if you're going for SQ and about 300w . they're $180 last time i checked on ikesound.com .Sony mono sub amps are decent and priced well.

Ok. Go to your local flea market and get subs and amps there. Make them play the subs for you so you know how they sound. However the subs that your getting are an ok deal. Also I haven't heard you say anything about amps to power the subs. You do have an amp right?

S13GUY, what kind of music do you listen to?

Its pointless to get huge subs if you listen to classic rock like I do. Plus you don't want your subs to surpass the rest of your system.

And about which subs to go with, go to a store with one of your own CDs. Pop it in a setup similar to yours and just listen to different subs. It doesn't matter what color or size they are, just pick what you think sounds the best.

As far as what brands, stay away from the garbage stuff like xplod, and other flashy stuff. Usually the sound quality goes up with price, but dont look at a brand name.

I garuntee you that if you let your ear do the shopping, you won't be dissapointed with your decision.

Good luck with your system. Keep quiet around your turf like the guys said and try mounting the subs so they are harder to steal.

really depends what you want. Everyone one on this board is gonna be preferable to different subs, so go to a specialty shop and listen. If your going for spl, id say a kicker l7 in a ported box if room allows, and itll be pretty loud if you give it enough power. If you want sound quality look at the new 12w6 series. or even a 12w3 will be really good in a ported box. I like jl's because personally ive never had a problem with them, and really over power them, and the sound quality is amazing. Another really nice sub is eclipse titanium if you can come across one. Good luck. Ps. Also if your gonna spend all this money on this sub, what kind of amp do you have. If you got an l7, a 200 watt off brand amp wont do you alot of good.

little trick to to keeping system secure.

Screw down boxes with multiply screws inside the box, down into what ever your mounting it to. Also use all small square screws, they dont strip as easy, and they probably wont be expecting anything but a philips. Now they have to take 8 screws out of the sub to get the box out, and there waisting alot more time. better chance to be seen. Just my opinon.

not_a_porsche,

Yeah, I didn't really spec out the system when I bought it. It was a good deal so I bought it.

I am getting ready to re do the entire system. I am trying to get my friends MTX class D amp he is running four Thunder 6000's off of. for that matter I am trying to get his speakers too. Selling them cheap, I just havent had the cash.:ylsuper Not like I need them, my hearing isn't that great now.
